How do you shave? Electric, disposable, double edge, straight razor, or bearded guy?

It’s all about getting the right angle.
Edit: I meant to add that I can’t get up under my nose with the double edge razor but I couldn’t with the 4 or 5 blades either. I just buy a bag of twin blade disposables once a year so I can get that spot.
I know this is a dumb question on my part, but have you tried turning the razor upside down? I struggled with the area under my nose for a while until I watched a video on YouTube with a guy shaving and he did that. It kind of scared me, and to be honest, I cut myself under the nose the first time I did it, but over time it became very easy to do and I no longer nick myself when I do it. I can go right up to the very end of the nose that way.

Hmmm might have to try that. I did try shaving with just the oil and it was very smooth. I like to shave in the shower though so take it with a grain of salt. BTW Darrell, I also use the Nivea, great stuff and it only takes a very small amount. I like that it’s pretty much unscented too.

Have pretty much stopped shaving but use an electric to trim up every couple weeks.

Intresting stuff!!
I use a razor my wife bought me for Christmas in 1989. I used Trac 2 cartridges. I have over the years thought about getting a new one but have not found anything that has the heft this one has. Have thought about going the safety razor route but am convinced I will kill myself with it. :)
I have a boar hair brush. This is the second one I have had since the one my wife bought in 1989 when she bought the razor (it was our first Christmas after I got out of Grad School and the first time we had any money). She got both (brush, razor) from Taylor of Old Bond Street in London.
I've used various shaving creams over the years, but the one I have used most is the Sandlewood from Taylor.
I just purchased a new shaving soap product from Lush that I am liking a lot. They had one that I tried but there was no foam. This one works very well.

Fwiw, I bought a new 100 pack of Astra Premium whatever recently.
They're awful. I went back and read the reviews on Amazon, changing them to most recent reviews first, and about half of them give them a 1 star rating. So many nicks. Just a dull blade. They must have changed manufacturers or something. Their rating is still 4.6 stars, but if you adjusted it for recency bias, it would be terrible, probably below 3.
I tried changing shaving lotion, oil, cream, then changing out blades every time I used them, and nothing works. Left for a short trip, carrying my One Blade electric trimmer but shaving before I left. Nicked my face in 4 places. Small nicks, but irritating as heck.
Will be switching blades.

No change. Double blade in the shower. Beard sometimes in the winter but it does make me look 100 years old now.

I bought some Cremo sage and citrus not too long ago. It smells like neither sage not citrus. It smells like rotting woodpile. Other than that it works great.

Let me know what you find. have a lot of Astra blades left but was about to order a box. I will avoid that now.
FWIW I did find a great cream, CELLA shaving cream soap, from Italy. Made with an amount of beef tallow. I've been very pleased with it, and it lasts forever. I order the "refill", then push a chunk of it into a sealable plastic container, it's pretty soft. Works great. Have meant to post on it for a while, so glad you brought this thread up.
I use Mercur razors, they are great, last forever. A little small for my hand, but i've gotten used to it now.
Will have to find a blade now, b/c no doubt sometimes people change their process and I'm betting that's what has happened. It happens on Amazon a fair amount IMO.

The loss of Noxema medicated comfort shave with menthol is a loss for all men.

Lol. Some marketing guru probably decided, "rotting woodpile" scent wouldn't sell as well. Go figure.

Gave you that old fashioned barber shop feel.

I'd say to order, but really, there are enough bad reviews I don't think it's just me.
I ordered some Dorco ST-300 blades. Will give them a try. Read a couple of reviews and seemed a good fit for me, plus about the same price for 100.
Truth is, I should pay more attention to my razor and make sure that's a good fit. I have just been very happy for a long time until this batch of blades came in.
I will look into the shaving cream soap. I have been lazy for a long while now and use shaving oil because it's quick, but prefer a lathered good soap.

Something I learned a few years ago is to set the reviews by "most recent" and "verified purchases." Seems to give me the current state of actual purchased products, or as close to it as you can get.
BTW, I use a blade that was made by the company that made Harry's blades, but then that company got bought out by Amazon and they're now Amazon Essentials blades. :533: I tried a lot of different shaving creams and what works best for me is good ol' Barbasol.

Re: How do you shave? Electric, disposable, double edge, straight razor, or bearded g
I've been considering switching over to double edged razors. Currently, I use a mix of Harrys and an electric depending on if I let it grow out or not. THe electric overall does a better job for stubble and giving me a clean shave but is painful (it tends to pluck) if I let it grow out for a week.

I enjoy the experience, Pedro. Do a 3-pass shave for a very close shave, but in a hurry, a 2-pass shave is fine, and super hurry, 1-pass, and then a quick over the face with electric razor works, too.
