Raising him right--great stuff.
I have to say that i never expected to chase a coyote while mowing the grass, yet there I was today, mowing away (a riding mower) when I saw something in the woods and found a coyote. I drove closer to it and it went into tge woods, but a while later, on the other side of the yard, I came around a curve, and there he was again. It was pretty small, but light brown colored (almost like a deer) with a white throat. I looked at it trying to see what I could spot and it just walked on, occasionally glancing at me, just like a dog would. It did sort of resemble a small German Shepard with the shape of its face snd its color, but it walked with its mouth open like a friendly dog would. He really didn’t act scared of me or the lawnmower.
It turned into another section of woods and I didn’t see it again.
I knew they were around here (we occasionally hear them at night) but this was the middle of the day.
I can confirm there was no roadrunner in view
How many? All but one for me lol. (EDIT - no MySpace account.)

I have every one but AOL. I was more techie even that age, we had a compuserve account.
Flounder, just put a good varmint rifle on your mower next time and you'll be ready.
All but AOL and MySpace for me. I wasn’t even on Facebook until around 2016.
All but My Space.

Good morning! The sun is shinning, at least it is here, that’ll have to do.

Good morning to you, sir! Sunny and 86 today, makes Mondays a lot better.
I had every one but MySpace on that list. I skipped it and went directly to FB.
The Jaws music might help, but anyway…

Chuck, I asked you a long, long time ago about cooking on the Big Green Egg, the only reply I got was that it cooked
the best prime rib that you had ever eaten, still true? I assumed that you knew what you were talking about, so I've been Eggin' happily ever after. Still Eggin'?
Sorry if I wasn't thorough enough, but I will say that at that time I had limited experience. It's a long story, I got it as a gift, but at the time had little free time, then it was inaccessible during a separation and eventual divorce. During that time I did do the prime rib on it (standing rib roast, bone in), and it was the best ever.
The secret was in fact an accident. I was so inexperienced with the Egg I couldn't get the temperature up above about 180 or so reliably, so it took FOREVER to cook it (internal temp probe in it), but b/c it was so low and slow, it was so evenly cooked to rare and was still so juicy that it was tremendous.
We were hours late for dinner but it was great.
I have subsequently gotten my house back, and been remarried in fact, and I now use the egg fairly regularly, so I'm getting better at it.
So yes I now Egg maybe a few times a month.
I have become a huge fan of "low and slow" for everything. I have the deflector iron plate for the Egg, and use it almost every time. So I get a low smoke on meats, that come to temperature very slowly.
For steaks I have gone to doing a very low smoke, then I sear them in cast iron. For other cuts you can just let them go low and then enjoy, like a rib roast.
I'm still getting the hang of it. I do use natural charcoal only, and I bought that deflector and it works great for low and slow. I'm still figuring out temp control a bit. I'm better but not an expert at it.
The seal on mine is not 100% any more, but I haven't fixed it either and it's OK.
If I were buying one I would look hard at the Komodo models, but I really like my Egg and as long as it works I won't change.
I'm on my 14th year of egging and we love it. Appreciate the advice.
I guess I'm showing my age. I picked up a Weber Q1200 portable grill with a stand. With my wife and I at home mostly empty nesters, it is plenty for us now. Yesterday the power went out, so before hamburgers, flank iron steaks and hot dogs go bad (can hot dogs ever really go bad?) I quickly threw them on the grill and cooked them. It held 4 burgers, 10 hot dogs and 3 flank steaks simultaneously. For a portable grill, that isn't bad. Oh, I do have the adapter hose to hook it to the 20 lb propane tanks.
I miss regular charcoal grilling. That was my favorite, by far. Egging would have been such a luxury.
I bought a Weber kettle grill a couple of years ago and after having it awhile, I remembered why I sold my first one. You can do a lot of things with it, and I meant to get around to doing them, but I was mainly grilling burgers and steaks, which I could do just fine on a gas grill with more convenience.
I’ve been a Weber kettle guy for years… can’t see spending the $$$ to go egging… I’m cheap, I guess, plus I’ve done about everything from turkeys, deer shoulders/butts, pork shoulder/butts, ribs chops, steaks, from cows and pigs, chickens and chicken pcs/parts and eggs, shell fish, seafood, fish, bacon, bologna, brats, dogs, and burgers… lest we forget fruits and vegetables as well.
…now, having said that, if someone were to drop off an egg, I’d try using it.
…I used to go through 100/120 lbs of Kingsford a year. Now, over the last year, not so much, no one to impress, just me.
Boss, I got the egg as a gift. I'd be too cheap to have bought one at at that time.
The Komodo is cheaper and has a great design. The only thing special about the egg is temp control, which is about the ceramics, and Komodo has that and some improvements. If I were picking today I'd probably go that route, and they aren't insane. Egg is cheaper too thanks to the competition.
For what I do they work great, b/c I want low and slow, and ceramic is ideal for that.
I like mine a lot, but like I said it landed in my lap, and it was seriously more than a decade before I actually used it other than the few times including the accidental stumble in to a low and slow prime rib. It really was amazing, the Egg and ceramics can do really good things, but I'm still figuring it out.
The only real edge they have is even temp, which is mostly for low and slow. The benefit is they can basically do a luke warm smoke or do a real grill, so you get some flexibility. I think it's a better of both worlds of a grill and a cold smoker.
But had I not had one landed in my lap I wouldn't have it. FWIW my brother in law at the time got one too. Ran the temp to 700 for a seared steak and burned the seal off. lol.
You know you're eggin' when you open the lid and your glasses steam up and you can't see. FWIW I got mine when they were half the price they are now. It's more than paid for itself on good eats. I can't afford to go out and eat the kind of food we enjoy, unlike you high rollers, lol. That being said, at my age (75) and the prices, I would probably not replace it if it broke down. Edit to add: As I was posting I realized that our 55th wedding anniversary is coming in a coming up in a couple of weeks and my wife likes Filet Mignon and I always like Ribeye, so I found a prime whole beef tenderloin at a reasonable price. And I will saute some some vidalia onions, red, yellow and green peppers and mushrooms and little taters to go with our filets, not to mention the Philly Cheese Steaks and the kabobs we can use with the leftovers. Not bad for an avg of $6-8 a plate, not to mention the adult beverages I get to enjoy while "relaxing", huh? That's why I egg.
Worst bout of insomnia I've had in a long time today. Have not slept any, although I tried. I'm away from home - if I'm home and this happens, I get up, sometimes have a bowl of cereal, or a cup of hibiscus tea, watch TV, or actually do a little work and in 90 minutes or so, I get sleepy.
Nothing like that possible here. So I just struggle through, read on my phone set to black and white, no blue light, and wait for everyone else to get up. Early bedtime tonight.
I woke up at 3:00 this morning, I was thinking, glad I’m not working tomorrow. I take herbal sleepy capsules… I’ve posted on insomnia thread before, melatonin free. Solaray SP17 valerian, and skull cap root or some such non-sense. Go see the hippie chic at your local Rainbow Blossom, I always carry them when traveling. They stop the head clutter, and don’t leave me groggy in the morning. I’ve found that three of them does the trick… (don’t panic, they’re herbal).
If you have access to Netflix there a series called Turning Point The Bomb and the Cold War… for me there is no need to watch it, I turn it with the sound down low, roll over and just listen to it, it’s taken me a week to make it through two episodes. The narrator’s voice puts me straight to sleep. It’s really quite interesting, at least with some of the historical “facts”. Another good one is on the History Channel, WWII, I don’t make it past Germany invading Poland.

Mrs. BEvans will start out in our bed, wake up around 3, move to the couch and put on a BBC historical documentary of some sort. She's out like a light.
Upgrade landed in my lap… i15, is there anything I need to know other than it has a better camera than my previous i12?

Had to upgrade my phone; didn't want to yet, but forced upon me by circumstances...sigh...
Toasty out there, but then again it is summer, I wouldn’t expect any different. Stay hydrated…

Damn good cat, "Mittens," passed away today. He adopted us more than 17 years ago. Was an "outside cat" we saw roaming around, would come around and we'd give him treats or whatever. Nobody seemed to know where he came from. Weather turned cool, then cold, and I got my kids' Little Tyke house, pulled it around to our front, and bought a heat lamp to put in it to keep him warm.
From there, he decided he'd venture in. He became an inside/outside cat for us then. We took him to the vet after telling them we had a stray cat that had apparently decided to make us his new home, and he laughed when he saw Mittens. Weighed 18 pounds, and wasn't missing any meals. Vet thinks he was between 1-2 years old, so he was either 18 or 19 today. He was a fierce, and efficient hunter. Plenty of times he brought us "gifts" to thank us for homing him.
One day a few years ago he came in from his outside venture and he showed some battle scars where he got into a fight with something. No doubt he won the fight, but we took him to the vet and he told us not to let him get outside while the wound healed. He wailed about that for awhile, but eventually got used to it, and decided he liked having central air and heat, with 24/7 buffet available, and adapted to being an inside only cat.
Last couple of years his health was failing as he was experiencing kidney failure. We converted to wet food and did everything possible to make him comfortable, and he enjoyed a great quality of life during that time. We reached an agreement where we'd take him out into the yard and he'd agree not to run off, and we'd often just sit there quietly enjoying nature and warning chipmunks and squirrels that they were taking their lives in their own hands if they dared to make their presence known.
Mittens was a hunter/scavenger, and I swear there's nothing he didn't enjoy eating or drinking. We caught him dipping his paw in "Cheetah beer" from Cincinnati, eating macaroni and cheese, drinking diet coke and drinking coffee over the years. I closed my office door a few minutes ago and found a few videos of all of those things.
He enjoyed his last visit outside today before passing. Going to miss sharing my food and beverages, Mittens. Thanks for a great ride, sir.
So long Mittens… good hunting.

Oh how our fur babies tug at our heart strings.
Condolences to you and yours at this time for the loss at his passing and congratulations as well for a lifetime (for a feline) of memories well spent with Mittens.
How in the heck did your post count get to 4,493 Mr. C?
You can do that in a day...
lol Pappy.
I reset it to 0 day before yesterday. (j/k, but some time ago I did reset it. Didn't know if anyone noticed, but it was embarrassing that it was so many, and I did not want to have my posts given more/less weight because of the sheer number of posts. I ran across it accidentally in the admin section and thought it would be cool unless I wiped myself out, which I thought might be in everyone's best interest if I did anyway, so I tried it and it worked.)
I win! I win! WOOOHOOOO! I knew he'd break eventually....
I understand. Your move...
Thhhhrrrrrppppppppppppppp!!!
Is this thread still going?
