Thanksgiving Plans/Travel Plans
I’m wheels up in two hours heading to VA Beach to spend time with daughter’s family, which includes three grandchildren, so I’m good.
Booked early flight out to try and avoid the travel crunch.
Everyone be safe and Happy Thanksgiving to each and every family member…and let’s face it, we are family.

Be safe and enjoy your travels, Blueboss. Yes, we are all family here too. Happy Thanksgiving!

Re: Thanksgiving Plans/Travel Plans
Thanks blueboss. Staying put. Daughter in laws flew to their families. Sons having dinner at Stacy’s in Gallatin Gateway with dukegirl, dukegirl’s daughter and me. We will have numbers and the recent victory. But we will be talking about family.
Had a snowfall this weekend and with all the football fans traveling, there were real bad wrecks. What Montanans have learned due to our extreme weather and road conditions is that the environment on highways has changed. Many of the behemoths on the road are driven by unqualified or underqualified drivers.
Almost all wrecks on the passes and canyons are caused by semi drivers behaving badly. Take note.

Good travels Blueboss!
Bigsky, it’s that way everywhere now. If you can pass an ESL road sign test you can get a CDL.

Re: Thanksgiving Plans/Travel Plans
Oh, we're staying home. Three of the five kids will be over for Thanksgiving, even nurse daughter who just started new job and thought she'd be working Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's. Fourth child and her family spending it in Ohio or Pennsylvania, where they live/are moving. Fifth child is in Japan, so a little far to travel for Thanksgiving.

Re: Thanksgiving Plans/Travel Plans
My wife and I are home for the holidays this year. Both of my kids and their families will be down here in Naples for Christmas and we’re excited for that.

Re: Thanksgiving Plans/Travel Plans
Going to friend’s on Thanksgiving Day then doing our own Saturday with a smoked Turkey breast from Honey Baked hams.

Thanksgiving Plans/Travel Plans
…and in typical United fashion, my early flight plan has been bamboozled. We left the gate on time, the captain says there is a mechanical problem. So we returned to the gate the captain says they’re going to shut it down and reboot the system.
Reboot took about a half hour, Captain says it’s good to go but maintenance wants to verify(good idea, no complaints from me) the reboot was successful, however the Captain says they are going to shut it down and start it back up to make sure(another great idea, and again no complaints from me).
Captain says we’re going taxi out and head to Dulles, at about the same time my connector to Norfolk is leaving. So I get to Dulles they put me on the next flight out to Norfolk…1230., and they give me a $20 food voucher ( have you ever seen any food in an airport worth eating for $20, but that’s another story)
…and as I type, big board pops up with my new connector flight just got delayed due to the plane coming to get me got delayed leaving where it was coming from(another re-boot I’m guessing).
Remind me to tell you about the hostess at The United Club…
HAPPY thanksgiving? Could be worse, and still might get that way.

Re: Thanksgiving Plans/Travel Plans
Got to go have dinner (lunch for you urban folks) with my mom's family. Anyone want to help me hide or come up with a good 24 hour bug?
I swear boss I'd trade being stuck in the airport for a day over it, lol. At least they have open bars (though I agree a $20 voucher is about 1.5 drinks at an airport bar).
Love my mom btw, and some of her family, but overall I'd rather just call in sick and go shoot pool somewhere and start a tab...

Re: Thanksgiving Plans/Travel Plans
Oh, and if someone I won't mention hadn't p***ied out on the private plane, we could all take turns having him fly us places and avoid this mess. Just sayin'. ;)
I did look into those, and buying an old one isn't stupid expensive (think new car), but dang a mighty they are complicated little things based on my reviews. I get emails for jet charters in spam, but I'd have to sell my house to buy one for a year, so I guess I'll be sitting next to boss at Dulles or DFW or ATL, with Johnny Tarmak (bob and tom) on the other side.

Funny, I was just talking with my law partner (ish) at lunch about the plane again. I've got a connection where I can get one reasonably priced. Wife said I could get flying lessons, but is adamant she won't fly with me. If I think I can budge her on that, we may be back in business.

By the way, he's a couple of months older than I am and owns and drives race cars. Crashed at Road Atlanta Speedway a couple of weeks ago. Was doing 110 around a corner and axle broke.
Everybody talks about the concrete walls at Road Atlanta, but he met it head on... Fortunately, he says something is painted white, maybe wood. Then 5 rows of tires. Then the true concrete wall. So impact is absorbed.
He said he remembered to take his hands off the steering wheel and his foot off the pedal, and he was fine. Had some bruised ribs. And a wrecked car. But was happy because he set a record for his fastest laps times.

Re: Thanksgiving Plans/Travel Plans
In-laws and my mom and boys will be traveling to our house on Thanksgiving. Friday we plan on going to my dad’s. Seems pretty apparent this will be his last one based on his recent health issues and decline, so we’re gonna be thankful. I’m certainly thankful for all of my family.

We could have helped you with that stomach bug last week.

Re: Thanksgiving Plans/Travel Plans
All that remains of our nuclear families are within a 30 minute drive so we have 2 celebrations with 2 different menus, My wife's side happens on Thursday, and my side happens on Saturday. My wife and I were the first youngins in both families to get married and at that time both Christmas and Thanksgiving were over nite stays for us so we told the rest of the family that we would celebrate thanksgiving with my inlaws and Christmas with my family. After 41 years of that routine, I had lost both parents, and my wife's father had passed, so now we get together with my wife's clan on Thanksgiving day and the Sat after Christmas My Brother visits with his children when it fits and we visit with our offspring and their families when it fits.
Unless we have a foot of snow prior to, we just get up load my vehicle and drive for 30 minutes twice a year and drive 6 miles twice a year. We have been fortunate in the travel department as we have never had to fly nor drive 500 miles one way either. ''God bless all my family here.

Re: Thanksgiving Plans/Travel Plans
My wife and my son went to the Philippines first, and now on to Australia for the wedding of our niece. My daughter just followed, and will arrive "down under" sometime tonight.
I opted to stay home, keeping the dogs out of a kennel, and because of some other minor issues related to such a long journey. I will likely have the traditional Thanksgiving dinner at our local diner here, as I've already spoken to them and been advised that they are going to do the Thanksgiving dinner thing. Most likely will just order a couple of carry-out trays. Trust me guys, I have had much, much worse situations being in the Army or having to work the holidays in patrol while everybody else is having a good meal at home playing games with the family or watching ballgames.
I'm very, very thankful for what I have now. That IS the whole idea behind Thanksgiving, after all.

Swanson’s: it’s what’s for dinner.

Enjoy some time to yourself, Suncat. Sometimes that's a nice change-of-pace, too. Thankful you have family year-round; a couple-few days here or there is just a break :).

A bunch of years ago I had a solo Thanksgiving. I went to Churchill Downs and had a blast, and won a few bucks…

Ahh! Churchill Downs on Thanksgiving. I've done that a few times. What a blast!!
For some reason, I am hosting Thanksgiving on Friday. My daughter announced the plans last weekend. We are delaying the celebration one day so my SIL's mother can join us. She will be visiting from Monroeville and attending the big football game on Saturday. So, I am trying to figure out a menu from my mother's old menus. After I went to the grocery yesterday my daughter told me what she would like for me to fix. Oh!
It used to be I graciously hosted Christmas Dinner. Now I have Thanksgiving too!
I wish I was going to Churchill Downs.

You know Darrell, I truly have enjoyed the peace & quiet. It has been nice. But I'm also missing my family. A lot.

Re: Thanksgiving Plans/Travel Plans
Cheesecake is ready. Turkey is brining in the fridge.

There is no dessert better than cheesecake! I make a pumpkin praline cheesecake for the holidays that is out of sight! There is just a hint of pumpkin and great taste of roasted pecans on top. That sucker fills the baking pan to the brim. I like just about any kind of cheesecake, but this one stands out.

Re: Thanksgiving Plans/Travel Plans
We had Thanksgiving dinner at the office Monday. Irondale Cafe catered, which is always good.
Desserts were pecan pie and peanut butter pie. Somebody forgot to ask me (or the head of the firm). He loves chocolate pie, doesn't like either of the others.
I love the others, but I'm allergic to tree nuts (goodbye pecan pie) and peanut butter (goodbye peanut butter pie).

We had a company dinner for the employees last Thursday with fried chicken and all of the fixens…green beans, mac’n cheese, mashed taters/gravy. We also handed out $50 dollar gift cards from Krogers, presumably for turkeys and fix’ns.

Re: Thanksgiving Plans/Travel Plans
Going to New York Mills Minnesota on Sunday/Monday and back Tuesday/Wednesday. But everyone who lives anywhere near the I94 on most of that route could all get on it and still leave room for passing them.
