deadlocked as it seems now it could be, what happens? Is there someone the Republicans can unite around other than Trump, Cruz, or Kasich? If you say Jeb or Mitt, you better duck! Who do you like that the party can nominate?
What about the Democrats? If Hillary is in prison stripes at the convention, who becomes the nominee? Both parties can be in a state of chaos this summer.
If there is a delegate uprising and they have to hammer out a deal on the floor at the convention, I honestly hope they select Kasich as the candidate. I have no clue as to whether he could win the election, but I am convinced he is the best statesman the party can put forward at this time

I can't see America voting for a candidate that didn't win it or have the most delegates. It's the less than the will of the people situation that politics has become. The RNC can write this election off should this occur.

I could see Paul Ryan being a compromise in a brokered convention on the GOP side, or Kasich. Kasich was smart not to attack like Cruz, Rubio and Trump. Trump supporters won't support Cruz or Rubio and the Cruz or Rubio camps won't support Trump but both could support Kasich which was HIS plan all along.
On the left, if Hillary and up getting her just due behind bars, look for the nominee to the the walking gaffe to get the nod
I pretty much agree Doc, but Kasich, not Ryan. While I like Ryan, he has alienated a lot of Trumpettes. One name that will get some talk is Newton Gingrich. Despite a few little peccadilloes that sidetracked his career, he has played the race among all the candidates very well. He has stayed a close adviser to the three remaining candidates and seems to have offended no one. At this time I see no way that Trump will throw support to Cruz and vice versa.Quote:

I believe ultimately Gingrich will be the one to work all three candidates and the party to negotiate a deal. I don't think the Republican Party can broker a deal without help from someone the candidates trust.
I think it will be Ryan.
But at this point I hope Trump runs and wins as a 3rd party. If we are going to go down, we might as well blow up the whole system.

Kasich does. Or at least did based on the polls that were taken over the past couple of weeks. He is my pick and I hope he comes out on top in a brokered convention.
I don't trust any of the polls. They're all skewed to show the results the pollster wants you see.
And I have come to the conclusion that the GOP braintrust (such as it is) doesn't really care if they take back the White House or not. As long as their cozy little situation in D.C. doesn't change, THEY are happy. Screw the rest of us because they really do not care one bit about us working folks. Any of us. Because we're the same folks that keep sending these liars and thieves back to D.C. over and over again. And since we keep doing that, why should they care?
I still think my idea about a gallows on the Courthouse lawn has a lot of merit. And I can appropriate the rope.
I am not sure that Kasich is 1) a true friend of the 2nd Amendment, and 2) that he is all that interested in seeing the repeal of the Affordable Care Act with what he has done to bolster it in Ohio as Governor. Kasich is another version of Jeb Bush, just a tad more palatable, but still the same kind of guy.
I liked him at one time, but I am just not sure he is what the solution is. Not sure ANY of these guys is a good solution for the problems that we have here at home and around the world.
All of that said, if it were to be him in the end I guess I'd have to hold my nose when I cast my vote. And I am not a big Trump fan either, and I am not enamored with Cruz like I once was. So, once again, in another national general election, there isn't going to be a strong candidate coming out of the GOP.
And I am also not convinced that Killary is going to draw out the voters in her party like the Kenyan has in the last two elections. She has been giving speeches to empty seats, people are not turning out to see her. And then there is this FBI investigation into her e-mail server AND the slaughter at Benghazi, among many things in her background.
What in the hell has happened in our country that makes ANY OF THESE CLOWNS worthy of being our President? Or even plausible choices? So once again, we are going to be choosing the lesser of whatever damn evil is presented by the other side...........
This really wasn't intended as a thread on who you liked necessarily, though I like those comments. Rather I was attempting to discuss more along the lines as to what do the delegates to these conventions do now that it is becoming very probable that no one will get enough votes in the Republican's first ballot. Does Trump take down the party if not nominated? Does he acquiesce and say I was in the race to have the discussion and will support someone else. (I'm not sure I believe that but some have advanced that line of thinking.) But my concern is there is so much animosity can the three candidates bury the hatchet? Will they support one of the two others? Who could emerge if the three can't agree? If unresolved quickly it could not only bring down the party but have serious lasting effects on the entire nominating process. How would the Republicans go about resolving the issues?
As for the Dems, can the party line regulars swallow the Socialist Bernie Sanders if the Hildabeast is carted off in shackles? Will they ignore him and call on someone else? How will they go about resolving their issues.
My own hypothesis is neither current front runner becomes the nominee of their party.
That would be a historic event in modern politics if it happens, and would make for some really interesting theater at the conventionsQuote:

Now that the Wisc results are in, it's about 90% certain that some type of deal among Republicans will be made. Are ther circumstances that will allow Cruz to Support Trump and vice versa? Or will someone else broker a deal? This nomination process is on a collision course. Conservatives are breaking from Trump. Trump will likely win NY and Pa, but every other state is up for grabs. It would appear Trump's momentum is waning. Certainly it is stalled for now. Is it stalled enough for him to reconsider an independent bid?
As for the Democrats Hiiary is running out of gas. It is going to be a wild summer and most of those who have already voted will be disinfranchised. We have never seen anything like this, with this much hate, in the history of the Republic. It will make Clay and Jackson seem as kissin cousins.
I think it's possible but unlikely that any candidate gets to 1237 by the time the primaries end. But that doesn't necessarily mean there won't be a 1st-ballot nominee. For example, in 1976 Ford didn't have a majority after the primaries were over, but he was close enough that he could secure commitments from uncommitted and/or released delegates and get there before the convention. If either Trump or Cruz get to, say, 1150 or so, I think there's a decent chance they'll be able to do the same.
And let's stipulate as a preliminary matter that most Trump delegates/voters aren't going to support anyone but Trump. If it's not him, the GOP will have to go it without their support.
If there's a deadlocked convention, IMHO it won't be Kasich, Rubio, Walker or any of the others who ran and got trounced. Cruz supporters won't support anyone who ran and got fewer votes than Cruz did.
I also don't think it will be Ryan. Ryan took the job only because no one, and I mean NO ONE else wanted the Speaker job and the GOP conference caved to his demands. Even if Ryan wanted it (and I don't think he does), those 2 conditions won't exist.
So it would have to be someone besides Ryan who hasn't run this year and would have be acceptable to most of the non-Trump delegates. Who fits that description? Not too many people IMHO. Maybe Romney, but he's uninspiring. A young Governor like Nikki Haley? Is she ready for prime time?
I keep coming around to it having to be Trump or Cruz.
Don't disagree, but I think Trump is losing momentum. If he limps into the convention after California, i don't think he will run in autumn. His ego won't let him be in a position to fail. If he can be kingmaker that may be all he needs.
His losing momentum is a media myth. His numbers have basically been static throughout the primary season. The big problem is that he didn't pick up numbers as others dropped out.Quote:
