No matter how famous their repertoire is on the court, we still continue to hear about the philanthropic deeds and community based programs that former Kentucky basketball players partake in, increasing their connection with the very fans that admire and look up to them.
Former Kentucky star, 2010 #1 Draft Pick and Washington’s Point Guard John Wall, along with former College Basketball coach Dino Gaudio, held a valuable basketball camp, August 3rd-August 4th in Fairfax, Virginia.
200 campers, ranging from 1st to 12th graders, experienced a fun-filled day with Wall, fine tuning their basketball skills in a relaxed yet insightful environment.
Coach Anthony Mercer, who helped to coordinate the event, took notice of Wall’s impacting communication with the children during both camp days, “(John Wall) was interacting and an active participant with the kids on both days. He was at the camp the entire time, playing against the campers in games of “Knockout” and he also went around to all of the five-on-five competitions.”
Mercer was highly impressed with Wall’s attentiveness and genuine interaction with the young campers. “ (Wall) and Gaudio, gave the campers valuable tidbits about basketball at the beginning of each day. The camp was a success because (Wall) was present and engaged both days. So, the campers knew that it was more than just his name on the camp description.”
With such a success, esteemed reputation and effective engagement, Wall’s camps continue to be a worthy achievement, paving the way for future basketball stars in the making.
