“We had a good practice,” Stoops said. “it was very good – we treated it like a Tuesday practice.” He said it was like a game week routine.
- Got Za’Darius Smith back today. Stoops was asked if he would be far behind? “He won’t be far behind, Stoops said. We’ll get him caught up. He’ll get caught. He looked good.
- Stoops said he’s been close and he did have a high ankle sprain. Those things are touchy even if you feel good.
- The coach didn’t want to talk about Cody Quinn any further. He said – “I don’t want to discuss it any further. Don’t push it. I’ve been very lenient with you guys. We are in game week preparation.”
- In addition to Patrick Graffree leaving the squad Stoops said others might be leaving. He said Graffree would’ve had a hard time getting some playing time.
- The coach said they can’t look at WKU’ schemes but they are looking at individual players and the said that running back Antonio Andrews is a very good football player.
- Stoops was coy about who they thought was going to be the starting quarterback (laughs). He said they are working through that. The implication was they had a mole in the WKU practices.
- Stoops said Demarco Robinson would be handling the punt returns for them.
- The coach said they will announce the kicker on the next couple of days but he’s fairly certain it will be Joe Mansour. Stoops said – “Joe will be the kicker. When we were scrimmage like situations in the two minute drill Joe’s hit two fifty pLus (yarders) to win the scrimmage. It was always his job to lose.”
- Max Godby was awarded a scholarship today.
- Rashad Cunningham will not be participating games this fall but will stay in school and work on his academics.
- Stoops said he feels good about six or seven o-linemen.
- Overall the secondary is better.
