  • Balance of Power Shifting From Georgia to Florida

    By: LONNY DEMAREE

The coaching staff signed twelve-offense, nine-defense, and one kicker in the class. He was very complementary of his staff and the kind of job that they did in putting the class together and none from the state of Georgia. Without elaborating Stoops said they are not through recruiting for this class so look forward to maybe seeing another addition to this class. Stoops said they signed three players from Kentucky and three the state of Ohio. Not only that, he spoke of the caliber of player from both states.

The last player come on board today was Jason Hatcher as we set in the meeting and viewed his press conference in Louisville at about 3:10. Stoops talked about Hatcher and how it was important in a lot of ways. He said – “You know the importance of recruiting the best players in your state. Jason (Hatcher) – a tremendous person; a great family; Louisville, it was hard to get around that for a while; and it give us great credibility moving forward.” Stoops talked about his first step coming off the edge. “What makes him so dynamic is how explosive he is. He’s very good on his feet. He’s very good off the edge. He can do a lot of things but again it’s his first step,”

Coach Mark Stoops and his staff have done a yeomen’s good in the state of Florida in what is initially perceived as of a caliber that can play at the highest level in the SEC. The University of Kentucky roster consists of 21-players from Georgia. There is believed to be several, many who are first or second year players will be big contributors at the University of Kentucky. Primary recruiters on every staff have a pipeline they like to feed on. Aside from LaGrange, Georgia, the previous staffs recruited heavily in Georgia. The previous staff had a pipeline into LaGrange dating back to 1996 when Quentin McCord came to UK. Kentucky native Coach Steve Pardue spent seventeen years at LaGrange high school. The Wildcats have gotten a lot mileage out of that school.

    Pipeline
When talking about recruiting pipelines the next possible one might not be in the form of a particular school but perhaps in a person. That person is tight end coach Vince Marrow who has a lot of roots in the state of Ohio. He said he is working on the top ten players in the state of Ohio and he expects to get all of them. Given what he was able to accomplish in such a short period of time, who is to doubt him? Now the interesting phenomena with the Stoops staff are where the pipeline is going to be established in Florida. Or better yet signing results of the present signee’s is that they will perhaps be capable to recruit all over the state of Florida. If that is established, it will bode well for the success on the football field.

Again the high priority on keeping the best players in-state at home is it stops the bleeding and puts a big bandage on the open wound.

For the BBN the welcome thing to the ears is the ability to watch a big bundle of the spring practices.
