Antonio Reeves to Participate in Final Four 3-Point Contest

Reeves sunk 84 3-point shots in 2023-24 at a 44.7% rate

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Antonio Reeves’ college basketball career isn’t over quite yet.

The Kentucky guard will participate in the Hanes Men’s 3-Point Championship as part of the State Farm Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championship at this week’s Final Four. The event will take place on April 4 at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix and will be televised live on ESPN at 9 p.m. ET.

The State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships invites 24 of the nation’s elite men’s and women’s college basketball players to compete for slam dunk and 3-point shooting bragging rights. The night features the King’s Hawaiian Slam Dunk Championship, the Hanes Men’s 3-Point Championship, the Hanes Women’s 3-Point Shooting Championship and the Dave’s Hot Chicken Hot Shot Challenge. The winners of the Hanes Men’s and Women’s 3-Point Championships will then compete in the Skechers Battle of the Champions.

Reeves is the fifth UK player to participate in the 3-point event dating back to its inception in 1989. He joins Gerald Fitch (2004), Scott Padgett (1999), Travis Ford (1994) and Davion Mintz (2022) in the collegiate contest. Chuck Hayes (2005) is the only Kentucky player to participate in the dunk challenge portion of Thursday’s events.

Reeves concluded his career having played in 156 career games and made 107 starts between Illinois State and Kentucky. He scored 2,350 points and sunk 306 3-pointers.

As a Wildcat, Reeves averaged 17.2 points per game over his two seasons in the Blue and White. He connected on 164 3-pointers and made them at a 42.2% rate. Reeves was UK's leading scorer at 20.2 points per game in 2023-24, which is the highest scoring average per game by any player in the John Calipari era. Reeves tallied marks of 51.2% from the field, 44.7% from 3-point range and 86.3% from the free-throw line -- all career bests. He was the only Power 5 player to average at least 1.5 made 3-pointers and tally at least .490% from the field, .435 from 3-point range and .865 from the charity stripe at the conclusion of the regular-season.

The 57th All-American in program history, topped double-figure scoring in all but one game this season and eclipsed the 20-point plateau in 20 games. He was just the second UK player under Calipari to have 20-plus career 20-or-more scoring efforts in his career, joining Oscar Tshiebwe, in that category. Twelve of his 29 career 20-plus point scoring efforts came on the road.

The Chicago native scored 20 or more in seven straight games, including 27 in an upset win against No. 4 Tennessee on March 9. That was the longest streak of 20-point efforts for a UK player since Jamal Murray did so in 12 games in 2016.

In 10 true road games this season, Reeves averaged 22.9 points per game, 48.5% from the field, 50.8% from 3-point range with 3.3 made 3s per game and 82.9% from the charity stripe.

Against Georgia, he eclipsed 2,000 career points combining his time at Illinois State and at Kentucky. As a Wildcat, he became the 62nd player in program history to amass 1,000 career points with 25 at LSU. He was one of three active players and 10 all-time to tally 1,000 career points at two different programs.

In two seasons with UK, Reeves scored 1,155 points which is the second-most in a two-year span ever in the history of the program. The most in a two-year span as a Wildcat is 1,213 by Bill Spivey.

In his career with UK, he had 57 double-digit scoring games, 44 games with multiple made 3s, 30 20-point games and eight games with five or more made 3s.
