The University of Kentucky is seeking to hire a head football coach who can 1) put an exciting team on the field; 2) one that can put points on the board; 3) put people back in the seats where there has been a 27% decrease since 2009; 4) have fruitful recruiting ties; 5) inject overall excitement that can make inroads to potential big money boosters. My sources say that Rich Rodriquez has risen to the top of Mitch Barnhart's list.
Rodriquez is widely considered one of the great offensive minds in football, arguably topped by none. He set many offensive records at WV and his present team of Arizona is presently averaging 38-points a game. His offense has had success everywhere he's been.
No matter the great success Rodriquez had at West Virginia, there are a hand full of football programs that every coach would like to coach and the University of Michigan was one of them. He at one time turned down the University of Alabama. Upon arriving at Michigan he ran into factions that doomed him before he got started. These faction were developed after the passing of Bo Schembechler, who was always the glue that held the Michigan family together. They were against him because they resisted changing the culture and philosophy of Michigan football. He was not a Michigan product. These factors doomed him before he got started.
He runs a 3-5 stack defense that was run by defensive coordinator Jeff Casteel at WV and for family reasons decided to stay in WV with Bill Stewart.
Rodriquez immediately drew the disdain of powerful figures in Ann Arbor - both inside and the university and from the press covering the team. Faction existed and then it went terribly wrong in Michigan from the outset by many forces out of his control. Now Arizona has a premier coach for 2 mill.
