  • Kentucky's National Signing Day with Mark Stoops and Staff

    By: Lonny Demaree

Part of the culture change of UK football is the signing day dissertation coming from the head coach on his recruiting class. There’s an old adage that coaches, at least, the head coach never signs a bad class. If you are a veteran of those many days, you learn to take it with a grain of salt, translation: ‘I’m from Missouri, show me.’

Now, when mark Stoops takes the podium to give his assessment of his class, you can believe him. One observation that was out of character was, today there was no Vince Marrow waiting to get on the podium to give his spin on the class. His spice was missing to the mixture. He lets it all hang out, sometimes to the chagrin of Stoops.

Perhaps, the answer to that mystery is that Marrow is busy on the Rubik Cube. So, over and above the 22 players announced maybe there are some more additions to the class. We think so.

Stoops said he is really pleased with the class thus far and how they finished. The latest signee was just sign right before Stoops took the podium. The late signee was linebacker Jayvant Brown from St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He is a 6-0 220 inside linebacker that UK beat Michigan on.

Stoops said the present players are glad to get a break in recruiting because they that accompany a recruit on his visit, beyond the game on Saturday, had an added responsibility as their sponsor during their official visit.

In the transfer portal, Stoops said he feels like they hit a home run with North Carolina State’s Devin Leary. Stoops said that everybody that was anybody that was in the quarterback recruiting market wanted Leary.
Mark Stoops said it was unfair to compare Leary to Levis but much like Will he can quickly command the locker. “He’s a dude you can see it very much,” Stoops said. Stoops said the portal is very valuable for them to plug some needs.

Stoops said if you look at the star rating they finished in the top twenty.

Stoops reiterated his pleasure in what he has seen in the bowl preparation practice. Those being wide receivers Brandon White and Jordan Anthony, two burners. Dekel Crowdus has been coming on.
Stoops said Ray Davis fits what they need in the fact he is a tough runner and a very charismatic guy, also. Keeping nose tackle Justin Rogers and JJ Weaver is a huge plus for this team.

Mark Stoops said this time of period is very hectic and he believes it needs to be re-addresses; with the transfer portal, managing the roster, re-recruiting, and all over the country recruiting freshmen. Some changes with the calendar should be changed.
