  • Kentucky Baseball Releases 2023 Schedule

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky baseball team will face another challenging schedule in 2023, including 23 games against opponents that made the NCAA Tournament last spring, including eight against Super Regional opponents, as part of a season that kicks off on Feb. 17, 2023.

Season ticket information will be released in the coming weeks, with television assignments and game times determined closer to the season.

Three teams that reached at least the NCAA Super Regional round, including College World Series participant Texas A&M, pepper the schedule. Making a trip to Lexington will be regional non-conference foes Indiana, Louisville and 2022 NCAA participant Wright State, as well as traditional power Mississippi State and Florida.

The Wildcats open the season at Elon with a three-game series set for Feb. 17-19, then return home for a 10-game homestand. The opener at Kentucky Proud Park is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 21 against Evansville.

The non-conference schedule also includes regional rivalry games against Indiana (Mar. 14) and the annual home-and-home against Louisville. The Cats and Cardinals meet in Louisville on Apr. 11 and in Lexington on Apr. 25.

As previously released, the Cats will host 2021 national champion Mississippi State to open its 30-game 2023 Southeastern Conference schedule and the conclude it with a home series vs. Florida at Kentucky Proud Park.

Looking to prepare for life on the road in the SEC, UK will play a pair of pre-conference series away from home against Elon and Southern Illinois (Mar. 10-12).

The Cats are entering their seventh season under head coach Nick Mingione and have won 176 games during his tenure, including a 33-win season in 2022. Mingione now is third on Kentucky’s all-time coaching victories list and owns the second-highest winning percentage among coaches who were at the helm for 100 or more games.

It definitely has an upside and a downside, doesn't it? If you go weaker on out of conference games, you better win a whole heck of a lot of games both in and out of the conference schedule. I'm not necessarily opposed to it, but when we get to the end of the season and they're talking about teams on the bubble and we have 30 wins with a losing record in the SEC, and an RPI in the 50's, we will revisit this, won't we?

Definitely need to win 14-15 SEC games with that non conference schedule.

I Wish they did not schedule Feb games in Lex, and find a warmer spot to play on the road. It is tough for the players to have to sweep the snow off the field to be able to practice or play a real game.

Thanks, Harlow--I corrected it to 22. No idea, of course, and watch 18 be the right answer lol. Anyway, I appreciate the heads up.
