  • Wildcats’ Big Blue Bahamas Games to be Televised by SEC Network

The UK Sports Network will broadcast each game live from the Bahamas as well

LEXINGTON, Ky. – It won’t be able to replace the paradise that’s just outside the arena, but for Kentucky men’s basketball fans who are unable to make it to the Bahamas in August for UK’s foreign exhibition tour, they’re still in luck: SEC Network will televise all four games live from the Baha Mar Resort in Nassau.

The SEC Network college basketball crew of Tom Hart (play-by-play) and Dane Bradshaw (analyst) will be on the call to bring fans all the game action, live from The Bahamas.

Additionally, the UK Sports Network, with Voice of the Wildcats Tom Leach and UK Athletics Hall of Famer Jack Givens on the mic, will broadcast all four games on 630-WLAP, its affiliates across the state, on UKathletics.com and the UK Athletics app. Coverage will begin 30 minutes before tipoff.

With TV and radio coverage finalized, tip times for all four games have been set. The first two games will tip at 7 p.m. ET, the third game will begin at 6 p.m., with the finale on Aug. 14 slated for Noon.

A full schedule of the games is below.

Aug. 10 at 7 p.m. vs. Dominican Republic National Select Team (SEC Network/UK Sports Network)
Members of the Dominican Republic’s national program all under the age of 22

Aug. 11 at 7 p.m. vs. Tec de Monterrey (SEC Network/UK Sports Network)
Mexican collegiate team boosted by U23 national team players as well

Aug. 13 at 6 p.m. vs. Carleton University (SEC Network/UK Sports Network)
Winners of 16 of the last 19 collegiate national championships in Canada; owns wins over Syracuse, Wisconsin and others in its summer tour exhibition history

Aug. 14 at Noon vs. The Bahamas National Team (SEC Network/UK Sports Network)

This marks the third time the Wildcats have ascended on The Bahamas to serve as a tune-up for the regular season, and both previous times the Cats came away with positive results. UK first traveled to the island prior to the 2014-15 season, which ignited a magical run that ended with an undefeated regular season, SEC regular-season and tournament titles, and a trip to the Final Four. Kentucky earned a 4-0 mark in The Bahamas in 2018, prior to going 30-7 and reaching the Elite Eight in 2019.

This will also be the Cats first trip to Baha Mar, a 2,300-room resort anchored by a Grand Hyatt Hotel, and also features two deluxe hotel offerings, an SLS and Rosewood. The resort features a 100,000 square-foot casino, a new $250 million water park and the Jack Nicklaus-designed Royal Blue Golf Course.

UK’s returning core is headlined by National Player of the Year Oscar Tshiebwe who led the country with 15.1 rebounds per game and also paced the Cats in scoring at 17.4 points per game. Kentucky will also welcome back Sahvir Wheeler who led the Southeastern Conference and ranked third in the country with 6.9 assists per game. Forwards Daimion Collins, Jacob Toppin and Lance Ware were all instrumental in helping the Wildcats to a 26-8 season a year ago and a No. 2 national seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Kentucky will welcome in four dynamic newcomers including top-10 signees Chris Livingston and Cason Wallace. Both players were Gatorade State Players of the Year and McDonald’s All Americans. Fast-rising prospect Adou Thiero inked with the Cats during the late signing period. UK also added one of the top transfers in Antonio Reeves Jr. who ranked among the top 20 individual scorers a season ago at Illinois State averaging 20.1 points per game.

      Oh, but it will!!!

The paradise is inside the arena. And my being able to watch from the comfort of my home with some delicious KY bourbon, while maybe not quite the same thing as being in the arena, will suffice.

I'm very excited about this upcoming season. Nothing should be taken for granted as there are too many things that can happen along the way. But over the yaers I have become much more of a "the journey is better than the end point" so I truly enjoy the entire season, up or down and regardless of how it might end.

In the end, it's UK basketball. And even the greed and unbelieveable stupidity of those supposedly in charge of college basketball will not minimize the extent to which I will enjoy every second of seeing UK players on the floor while we still can.
