  • Larry Vaught spoke with Madison Lilley her sophomore season

...after a particularly special game and asked her if she had played the perfect game, or if Craig Skinner told her, "Wow, Madison, you just did everything right!"

She quickly said no, there was always something to work on, to get better.

Larry then followed up and asked her what Craig got on her the most about.

"My defense," Lilley replied. That's what Craig Skinner would get on her about, having her improve that aspect of her game. One day that would be needed.

That day came two years later, in the National Championship Game.

Fast forward two years...and Madison Lilley had an incredible game-high and career high 19 digs against the powerful Texas Longhorns vaunted attack.

    Want proof?

Here you go. I ran across the video this evening looking for something else.

Credit to Craig Skinner for answering the question, "how do you improve on near perfection," credit to Madison Lilley for taking the critique and instruction to heart in her training, and credit to Larry Vaught for asking questions that would eventually point to a national championship two years later.

    Great job, all.
