  • The UK Quarterback Room

Based on how long I've had a personal connection with Bill Allen and family, I could easily be particant as to who I want to take the first snap this season. That would be Beau (Allen). The senior Allen is the president of The Bank of the Bluegrass and for several years his office was at High and Limestone in Lexington. There were times when on my route across the city and my eye-lids got heavy. I would stop at the bank and kick back in Allen's office with a cup of Joe in my hand. Needless to say, the topic of conversation was Kentucky football. Allen's main office is now out on Southland drive.

I watched three games Beau Allen's year at Lexington Catholic and was impressed with the different arm angles he could throw the football. He appears to have the ability to get the ball downfield, at least at the high school level. At Paul Hornung awards ceremony I was mildly surprised when they ran off the senior year stats of his running accumulation.

There is going to be some fierce competition for the starting quarterback job for the Big blue. Mark Stoops on the recommendation of Liam Coen, added another quarterback Penn State transfer, Will Levis. In the words of Hal Mumme "quarterbacks are born to transfer."

I personally don't have a favorite because as Stoops so frequently says, he puts players in the best position to win games. I think his coaching experience and bank account super cede my opinion.

Some of us seemingly have forgotten or selective memory the words of Vince Marrow. He said in the last few practices before the bowl game, Joey Gatewood was very impressive.

Levis will not be in spring practice which nullities his experience and physical maturity.

So, without a doubt the quarterback competition will be the most interesting in Mark Stoops' tenure at UK.

Thanks, Harlow--I corrected it to 22. No idea, of course, and watch 18 be the right answer lol. Anyway, I appreciate the heads up.
