  • Kentucky Begins the Bowl Preparation

    By: LONNY DEMAREE

Mark Stoops said he would “sneak in a practice” today and start in earnest Monday working on Virginia Tech. The Hokies are the competition in the Belk Bowl.

After winning 5 of the last seven games and became bowl eligible. There was some mild anticipation amongst some of the BBN that UK might be headed back to the Tax Slayer Gator Bowl. Some nattering nabobs poke some fun at the BBN about Tennessee’s Athletic Director Phil Fulmer knocking UK out of going to the TaxSlayer Bowl. There was nothing strategical about it because they both had the same record but they won the head to head. That again was the only game the Cats secondary got exposed. Quarterback Jarrett Guarantano came into the game at the 12:03 of the fourth quarter after teh Cats had dominating the game and time of possession. Tennessee quarterback entered into the game and went 7 of 8 for 118-yards and to touchdowns. Marquez Callaway, Jauan Jennings. and Josh Palmer caught 207-yards of passes for teh game.

The Hokies are coached by Justin Fuente who followed the legendary Frank Beamer.
Bowden is awarded the Paul Hornung Award as the most versatile player in Dl.
Bowden will follow in the footsteps of his predecessor’s Josh Allen and Benny Snell.
Hornung has a great deal of insight of making that transition from wide receiver to quarterback. “That’s hard taking the team on your shoulders,” the former Hall of Famer said.

Mitch Barnhart has high praise for the players, the coaches, and especially the fans. He said – “A couple of those games it was raining so hard I don’t know if I could have stood out there in the rain. They hung right in there and supported college football and our kids.” He said short of his days in Oregon was the last time he experienced anything like this year. He said there would be a lot of empty seats in a lot of other stadiums but here there 55,000 tickets out and 30-35,000 people stay right there supporting college football and getting drenched.

Legendary defensive coordinator Bud Foster who originally hails from Somerset, Kentucky is retiring after this season. His team posted three shutouts this season. For this reason Virginia Tech poses a threat to UK’s powerful running attack. VT is a three point favorite in this game.

Logan Stenberg said he doesn’t mind the cold rain. “Us big guys have a more insulation on us,” the youngster said. “It’s those skinny that get cold.

Kentucky had four players named to the first team All-SEC team Lynn Bowden Jr., Logan Stenberg, Drake Jackson, and Max Duffy. That hasn’t been done since 2002 when return specialist Derek Abney, offensive tackle Antonio Hall, running back Artose Pinner, and punter Glenn Pakulak turned that feat.

Now it’s on to Charlotte and see what the ends going to be.
