  • Kentucky Sports Radio, Throwboy Tees leading Lorenzen donations

    By LARRY VAUGHT

Less than 24 hours after former Kentucky quarterback Jared Lorenzen was laid to rest Wednesday, donations for his family had already hit over $100,000.

Throwboy Tees is donating 100 percent of net sales in July to the Lorenzen family. As of Thursdayday night, Mike Welker said $61,700 had been raised of the $100,000 goal the T-shirt company had set to raise this month.

“Power of such a great person,” Welker, a Lorenzen’s business partner in Throwboy Tees, said.

Welker attended the service for Lorenzen Wednesday and then paid an emotional tribute to his friend when he talked to the soccer team he coaches at Moeller High School in Cincinnati. He had blue T-shirts with No. 22 saying Highlands — Lorenzen’s high school — on the front and Lorenzen on the back.

Welker made an emotional tribute to Lorenzen to his players before presenting them with the T-shirts to wear at practice Wednesday. The video of his talk on social media touched many.

“He was such a good friend and my players just really didn’t know who he was. He was such a freak athlete but these kids born around 2002 have no idea about him. I just wanted them to know who he was and what he was all about,” Welker said.

Lorenzen had become a fixture on Kentucky Sports Radio and about $40,000 was raised by KSR in the first 10 hours of the Jared Lorenzen Memorial Fund after it opened Thursday.

More is sure to come, too. KSBar & Grille is donating 22 percent of weekend sales to the educational fund for Lorenzen’s two children. There is also a Jared Lorenzen Memorial GoFundMe page (https://www.gofundme.com/f/jlofund) and donations can be mailed to KSBar and Grille, c/o Jared Lorenzen Memorial Fund, 1030 S. Broadway, Suite 1, Lexington, Ky. 40504.

Awesome! It sucks to have to use Georgia so early but I would trade the loss in exchange for seeing Vandy beat them.

    Week one: Georgia
