Josh Paschal, LB, Kentucky
In an extremely emotional moment for everyone associated with Kentucky football, sophomore linebacker Josh Paschal returned to action in Kentucky's 34-23 win over Middle Tennessee.
In July, Paschal was diagnosed with malignant melanoma on the bottom of his right foot. He underwent three surgeries, followed by ongoing monthly immunotherapy treatments.
Paschal recovered sufficiently to play against Middle Tennessee. He started the game and saw occasional action throughout.
In the second quarter, he made a tackle on a third down play that forced a punt. When his name was called as the tackler, the Kroger Field crowd gave him a rousing ovation while his teammates swarmed him with congratulations.
After the game, middle linebacker Kash Daniel said, "That was the highlight of my year, seeing JP out there doing his thing. That's unbelievable. He's been through so much. You guys know the big picture but you don't know the little things, the mental part he had to deal with. He's always so positive about coming back, there was never a negative day he had. He always had a great attitude. Josh is an unbelievable guy, I'm honored to be his teammate."
