Perfect Game/Rawlings tabs the senior as second-team third baseman

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky senior Luke Heyer was named a Midseason All-American by Perfect Game/Rawlings after a first half of the season that saw him rank as one of the nation’s most prolific power hitters.

Heyer, who hails from Lithia, Florida, earned Second-Team honors at third base by the national outlet, which also named him National Player of the Week earlier this season when he bludgeoned opposing pitchers at the Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic at Minute Maid Park in Houston.

At the midpoint of No. 9 UK’s regular season schedule he is hitting .371 with 29 runs, 10 doubles, 11 home runs, 36 RBI and seven stolen bases. He leads the team or is tied for the team-high in average, hits, doubles, RBI, slugging percentage and steals. He currently ranks eighth nationally in home runs and 14th in RBI.

Heyer has twice been named Southeastern Conference Player of the Week and earned National Player of the Week honors from the NCBWA and Collegiate Baseball on March 5, in addition to his honor from Perfect Game/Rawlings that week.

The senior has been a valuable piece for the Cats this season after being a part-time player in 2017. In addition to his hitting, which included a game-tying two-out ninth-inning home run that led to a walk-off win over Auburn on Mar. 23, he became the Cats’ primary left fielder when All-American Tristan Pompey was shelved with an ankle injury and has hit anywhere from fifth to eighth in the batting order.
