  • Adebayo headed to draft, signing with Saratsis

    By LARRY VAUGHT

After a few weeks of speculation about Bam Adebayo's future, it's now clear the Kentucky freshman is heading to the NBA draft.

Both Sports Illustrated and CBS Sports reported Monday that Adebayo would hire an agent and remain in the draft where he continues to be projected as a first-round pick in June. He had until May 24 to take his name out of the draft and return to UK if he did not sign with an agent.

Adebayo plans to sign with Octagon's Alex Saratsis, who represents Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo, after averaging 13 points, 8.1 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game last season when he shot 59.9 percent from the field.

When he first declared for the draft, Adebayo said he wanted to make sure he was "making the right decision for me and my mom."

That decision clearly now is to take the NBA money -- which is really no surprise since he has indicated for two years that his primary goal was to take care of his mother.

While freshmen De'Aaron Fox and Malik Monk had been on statewide autograph tours after declaring for the draft along with seniors Derek Willis and Dominique Hawkins, Adebayo had not cashed in on his year at UK. However, that apparently will change Monday when he signs autographs at Holy Family School in Ashland.
