  • No update yet on Horton, Flannigan

Running back Mikel Horton’s status for Saturday night’s game with Florida remains uncertain after he hurt his neck in the first half against South Carolina last week.

“We’re in pretty good shape (overall). Mikel, I’ll give you an update later in the week. Unsure of that right not, but other than that we’re in pretty good shap,” said Stoops Monday.

Stoops said he would “touch on that another time” when asked about freshman linebacker Kobie Walker, who has not played yet due to a preseason injury.

He also indicated that true freshman linebacker Eli Brown could still possibly play instead of redshirting as both UK and Brown originally hoped.

“We’ve been working with him and preparing with him to use him if we need to. It’s kind of a wait and see as we’ve been waiting on Ryan (Flannigan) to get back out there (from a shoulder injury), so we’ll see how it goes this week again. There’s a good chance we may have to play him,” Stoops said.
“And that has nothing to do with Ryan. It is another position. (Freshman) Nico (Firios) is a little bit banged up.”

One plus is that junior linebacker Jason Hatcher will be back after missing the first two games due to a suspension.

“I think Jason needs to show some humility, as he has. He realizes he made some decisions that have hurt himself and the team,” Stoops said Monday. “He has paid the consequences and needs to earn his way back on the team to some extent.

“He has been out there and been very supportive and has done everything he can to help us win without being able to play. Again, I have no problem with bringing Jason back. He has taken his penalties like a man and has to move forward and grow and get better from them. As a player, he gives us some experience at that position and pass-rushing ability and gives us some depth. It can only help us.”

Florida's offense is suspect this year, although you really couldn't tell by the score of their first game. They struggled a bit last week. So having Hatcher back would be nice.
But we have to score on these guys to win, because their "D" is more than adequate. So the offense cannot mail it in during the 2nd half like they've displayed in the first two games of this season. JMHO.

Jen Smith reports that Horton practiced today and is viewed as good to go. No word on Flannigan
