  • Killeya-Jones focused on family, friends and hard work

Recent Kentucky basketball commit Sacha Killeya-Jones arrived at Virginia Episcopal School a year ago he was shy. Athletics director Bob Leake thought maybe it was his 6-11 frame that made him “stand out literally above everyone else” at the school that contributed to that shyness.

“But he now displays a personal confidence that is goes beyond his prowess on the court,” said Leake. “He attends every athletic contest on the campus, offering his support and encouragement to his fellow classmates as they pursue their goals.

“He has volunteered to help within the school community and takes an active role in our schools many community service projects. VES’ motto is ‘Towards Full Stature’ and Sacha has fully embraced this ideal.”

Killeya Jones is from Chapel Hill, N.C., and arrived at VES for his junior season. He originally gave his verbal commitment before changing his mind and committing to UK earlier this week.

“Sacha is very mature young man for his age. He turned 17 just over two weeks ago, but regardless of his age, he has demonstrated an adult approach to most things away from basketball at VES,” Leake said. “He is an individual who is very focused on family and friends and it is also amazing to see him interact with younger children of the VES faculty on campus, who don’t see or perhaps recognize him as a basketball player, but as someone always willing to jump in a play with them at whatever game they maybe involve in.”

Students were not back at school when Killeya-Jones made his decision to attend Kentucky.

“Classes begin Monday and I can assure you however, that I am quite positive that the social media network has been buzzing with the news,” Leake said.

The VES athletics director says Kentucky fans are going to like Killeya-Jones.

“Kentucky fans should know that they're getting a really hard working player that hates to lose. He will work hard to be the best player he can be for them and also he will be an active member of the University of Kentucky family outside of the basketball arena,” Leake said

Sounds like he'll take off right where WCS and KAT left off!
