  • Kentucky Football Practice Notes - October 22

    By: LONNY DEMAREE

Neal Brown: He said that they didn't do a great job in preparation prior to the LSU game. He said they didn't win many of the one-on-one battles. The coach said Demarco Robinson was able to get open when some of the other UK receivers couldn't. Brown said of Mississippi State - "They're playing hungry. They play like we need to play and like we have played at certain points this season. I think they have the best front seven we've played and maybe the best in the league - I haven't seen them all yet."

Brown said their passing stats are misleading because they have gotten up early on just about everybody and that forced them to throw the football. Brown said they have done a great job at evaluating guys during the recruiting process. "They played some guys early which we are doing now."

Brown said the players have to play with a lower pad level. He said their (MS) guys are long and one of their guys was a basketball player. Brown said everybody runs well in this league and LSU is exceptional. "It wasn't good matchup," Brown said. The coach said of Mikel Horton - "I thought he played well. He was one of those guy coming out of the game I was excited about. I thought he did some good things" Brown said he put himself in position that if Stanley doesn't go he will get some playing time.

Coach Chad Scott: He had the same sentiments about his running back Mikel Horton. "He practices well today, "Scott said. "He runs with patience and has great vision. He can get power when he sees the hole and is able to get down behind his pads.

Mikel Horton: "I feel like I can be a dominant back in the SEC. I'm learning to practice well." He said he didn't run with patience in high school and Scott has taught him that since he's been here. When asked who he patterns his game after in the NFL. He said Houston Texans' Arian Foster and Pittsburgh Steelers' Le'Veon Bell. Why? Because they mirror his size at 6-foot-1, 225-pounds and they both run with patience.

Thanks Lonny. Any thoughts or comments on how today's practice went?

Outstanding in the basics and or the little things such as how to get separation in pass routes. The young receivers should have a better showing Saturday.

That is great news. Thank you sir. Now if they can figure out how to keep MSU's front 4 out of the UK backfield, the Cats may have a shot.

Thanks, Harlow--I corrected it to 22. No idea, of course, and watch 18 be the right answer lol. Anyway, I appreciate the heads up.
