  • Saturday practice tidbits

    By: LARRY VAUGHT

Will have more with Joker later, but here is quick report from some who saw practice:

    1. UK's 98-yard, 14 play drive was dominated by Offensive line. Perhaps best drive of the preseason camp.

    2. Both freshman running backs played well, but Mobley was overly impressive. Has to play. Could be best back on team

    3. Smith was Smith at QB, Newton threw one really nice TD pass. Towles showed promise.

    4. Player who impressed the most was FR QB Jalen Whitlow. One guy told me he was best athlete/player on the team by far. Threw two touchdown passes, including 40-yard bomb on play that ended scrimmage. Has to play this year. NO way to redshirt him. Wildcat QB or something, but former players raved about him.

    5. Minter not happy with defensive front. Guys had to work so long after practice that DE Collins Ukwu who was scheduled to be available to media was sent inside without talking.

    6. RB Coshik Williams hurt his foot. Will have MRI on Sunday to see extent of injury.

    7. WR Demarcus Sweat returned back-to-back kickoffs for touchdowns. Ran one back, was taken out, Joker called for him to come back on field and he ran next one back as well.

    8. Loved seeing about 70 former players at the practice/luncheon. Now get them on the sideline on game day.

    9. Among former players there was Tim Couch. UK has to use him more
