Given the alternating day procedure of the media's defense or offense access to the players, this was the day for the access to the defensive side of the ball. Very appropriate given the focus that Coach Mark Stoops felt the need of the most attention after the performance in the Tennessee-Martin game.
- Stoops and Eliot are working hard to develop on the depth in the defensive side of the ball.
- Eliot said some of the missed assignments were due to over anxiousness to make plays and not being attentive to their assignments and their responsibility. "It's sometime the first game of the year and not sticking tough to their assignment," Eliot explained.
- The coach said that in A. J. Stamps they saw a player that could play both the cornerback and safety spots. Aside from the one-handed interception and the submarine, player-flipping tackle, for him he talked about a play that many missed. "Eliot said - "The play that probably made went unnoticed he defeated a block, then the guy grabbed him from behind, Then somebody else tried to block him and he got off the block and made the tackle."
- In response to a question of their team speed Eliot said - "I think we are close. We have some young guys in the program that we are developing."
- Eliot said that Kendall Randolph reminds him of Blake McClain as a true freshman.
- Who stuck out on the film from Saturday. "Josh Forrest did some good things when he was in there," Eliot said. "Melvin Lewis - sometime gets unnoticed in there at the nose tackle spot. "It's not what he does but what he takes away.
- Ryan Flannigan said it was good to and "I really had fun. I know we have a lot of work to do because we could've played better. "It was a lot faster than practice and that win was special to me because I never won my first game anywhere in the past either in high school or junior college."
