  • Peach Jam Report

Let me start with a standard warning that you might read several reports by several people watching the same games and get totally different reports. These "evaluations" are opinions and opinions only. Different people look for different things based on their experience level and expectations. No one persons opinion is superior to another's so while my evaluation might be different from somebody else's it is by no means meant to devalue any opinion that they have. The reader should take each post for what it says and place their own value on it based on how comfortable you are with the authors previous posts.

Antonio Blakeney- if you saw this kid at the park and were looking for a pick up game, I'm not sure he would be the first kid you would grab. If you didn't and your opponent did, odds are you would be sitting next game! He looks frail but looks can deceive. His shot isn't a classic smooth stoke but the results more than make up. His release point is at the absolute apex of his jump. He can really get up and throw down solid dunk. He isn't a slasher to the basket but has phenomenal range. When he does go to the rim he gets up quick but his game is the perimeter jumper. He can put up points quick, and put up a bunch. Based on who was watching his games, UK is clearly interested

Chiek Diallo-I'm convinced I caught him on a bad game followed by a bad game. I love his energy but he is raw and no way is he a top tier player. Last night he was the third best big man on the floor in the game, behind teammate Thomas Bryant and Michigan State commit Deyonta Davis. No doubt he gets from end to end as well as anybody but offensively he is limited. I was disappointed to say the least

Tyus Battle- I liked him quite a bit. Solid SF, strong build and can mix it up a bit. He lit it up yesterday (6 of 7 and 3 of 4 from long range). I'd like to watch more of him tonight

Stephen Zimmerman - A player I'm not all in on yet. I've seen him play way better than he did today. He isn't raw like Diallo so I don't think his ceilling is were Chiek's is nor does he have the energy but he does have far more range and control of the game. Zimmerman is more rounded and versatile so there are more options.

Harry Giles-it would be amazing to see him on a team that utilized him. He showed all his skills except pass catching because he never had one thrown to him. I'll leave it at that. He is one of those players who always looks in control, where everything is easy and there is no panic or frantic to his game.

Jayson Tatum- Wow is all I can say. This kid can play the 2,3 or 4 and is a legit 6'8". He can shoot with range or use his length on the drive. Has great body control and uses it, especially with his arm extension in the lane. He seems to be the best player I've seen here.

Heading back for the night sessions but like Malik Monk who I've seen several times over the years, and Melvin Frazier. Also impressed with Ben Simmons who I wasn't a fan of. He has stepped up his game more than I expected.

Thanks Doc, thanks very much. Also your comments on Blakeney are pretty much spot on with recent reports I have seen on him. I would like to see him at UK.

Does Diallo have an offer from UK The UK scout site does not indicate he has a firm offer. Does not mean that is the case, but they either do not think so or they have failed to update the list recently

As I stated in my opening post, others opinions may differ. I don't base my opinions on theirs. I base my opinions on what I see. Thus far in four games he has yet to dominate on either end of the floor. Doesn't mean he isn't or won't be a good player, or that Cal et al should not recruit him. Far from it. I'm only reporting what I am seeing.

Wonder who priority is in 2016?

Look close at who (plural) is in picture.

How are his hands? I hate watching bigs that can't catch the ball. The rest I can live with.

I watched a few Diallo games on the EYBL site...not playing like the same kid I've watched the past couple of months. I don't know whether he has an injury, or just fatigue from the insane amount of ball he's played?

A rundown on Cheik's stats, game by game

4 of 9 for 14 pts, 11 bds and 3 blks (I did not see this game)
      6 of 9 for 18 pts, 7 bds and 3 blks
      3 of 5 for 7 pts, 4 bds and 2 blks
      2 of 6 for 7 pts, 6 bds and 0 blks
      1 of 2 for 6 pts, 5 bds and 4 blks

I missed game one and much of game two. Did see all or most of 3,4 and 5. I stand by my opinion that based on that I'd not see him as a top 10 player.

He's getting a lot of attention so somebody is seeing something in him but it would't be the first time a highly recruited kid wasn't all that when they first entered college.

Malik Monk had a terrible game this morning and his team is out. Got the golden sombrero from treyland with an 0 for 9, made just 3 of 20 overall, tallying 12 points. Had other games this week that were stellar so a bad game won't taint my opinion.

Bless you for being able to watch AAU ball. That is usually some pretty ugly one on 5 who every has it shoots madness.

Didn't he have a great NBA top 100 camp?

He was one of the top 5 there for sure.

He's in the top 10 in scoring and rebounding for this AAU season, even after this event.

Decide for yourself. He plays this am on ESPNU in about 2hrs. Looked better last night. Still don't see him as top 10 player. IMO it's a disservice to label him as such because the expectations that come with it won't be met. I can already hear the Vitales and his ilk touting the player for a month then talking about how big a disappointment he is when he doesn't reach expectations

Part of the problem with rankings is that kids are ranked on potential and not ranked on where they are at presently with skills and abilities.

Not with me. I'm just telling you what I see. Way I see it all kids have potential at this point.

I'm assuming all those who have not seen Diallo but think I'm wrong are watching him right now and are going to tell me his 4 point, 4 turnover, 3 blk, 3 rbd half was what they expected from a top 5 player. Totally dominated the competition. He had A nice spin move! Other than that he was a non factor.

ESPN's Fran Fraschilla said Diallo is playing with an injured back.
