  • A look at the Arkansas basketball team

Focus here is on the starting lineup; however, it should be noted that Arkansas gets a huge contribution of 39 points per game. Wow. Also, Arkansas is averaging 90 points a game at home this year. Could be a fun one to watch.

Mike Anderson teams have won the turnover battle 319 of 377 career games. No surprise what his modus operandi is. Arkansas has a turnover margin of +6.3, which is 4th in the nation. Arkansas has forced opponents into 20 or more turnovers six times already this season.

Arkansas is 33-22 all-time at Bud Walton Arena against ranked opponents. I view that as a positive sign for Kentucky, rather than negative--a lot of losses in there.

Here is a quick look at the Arkansas starters:

    #00 Rashad Madden (G) - 6'5 Junior
    • Coming off a career-high 23 points vs. No. 10/11 Florida.
    • Started last nine contests; 13.4 ppg and 18-of-35 from three.
    • Reached double figures in 10 of the last 12 games.
    • Third on the team in scoring at 11.2 points per game.
    • Made 22 three-pointers after 24 combined his first two years.

    #12 Fred Gulley III (G) - 6'2 RS Senior
    • Committed just six turnovers of his last 201 minutes.
    • One of two players to start 10+ games this season.
    • Third on the team with 28 assists and just 10 turnovers.
    • Has a positive or equal assist/turnover ratio in all but one game.
    • Four multi-steal performances, including two of the last three.

    #24 Michael Qualls (G) - 6'6 Sophomore
    • Tops on the team in scoring (12.7) and double figure outings (13).
    • Landed on SportsCenter’s Top 10 plays three times this season.
    • Reached double-digits in a half seven times.
    • Team leader with 18 dunks.
    • Has scored 190 points compared to 144 all of last season.

    #04 Coty Clarke (F) - 6'7 Senior
    • Coming off a double-double of 16 points and 14 boards vs. Florida.
    • Hit a trio of threes vs. Florida after three in the first 14 games.
    • Second in the SEC in rebounding (12.0) in league play.
    • Double figure rebounds in two straight games and three total.
    • Started the last seven games; 10.6 ppg & 8.0 rpg.

    #10 Bobby Portis (F) - 6'10 Freshman
    • Two-time SEC Freshman of the Week - Dec. 9 & Jan. 6.
    • One of three SEC freshman in the T-25 in scoring & T-15 in boards.
    • Second on the team in scoring (12.5) and tops in rebounding (6.3).
    • Led the way in scoring a team-high five times (4-1).

IIRC Madden is shooting 50% from behind the arc, and he is not a stand still shooter. He is a good one and will be hard to stop. I think I recall Arky having 3 players shooting better than 40% from3 point range

Portis 9-26 in SEC play. Arkansas is sub 40% from the field in SEC play.

Which Arkansas team shows up, the one that has lost consecutive SEC games or the one that whipped up on the bottom half of the RPI?
