The comprehensive immigration overhaul being taken up in the Senate this week could cost taxpayers $6.3 trillion if 11 million illegal immigrants are granted legal status, according to a long-awaited estimate by the conservative Heritage Foundation.

What's a trillion here or there to the Obama crowd

The problem isn't immigration. The problem is we've created a socialist welfare state where we actually pay people to go convince other people to get on the public dole, so in that model any addition to the population long term, from immigration to child birth, start to become a net negative. That's sad b/c prior to the work of Johnson and Obama and the Leftist Utopians every person added to this nation was on average a net addition to whole.

The question economically is simple: will these people get on and stay on the government dole or will they become economically mobile contributors to the national economy? If enough of them decide to work hard and make a new life for themselves beyond the slavery (yes, it's slavery) of the welfare state then this will be a net economic gain for the nation. If they decide in too many numbers to listen to the state paid food stamp recruiters and do like too many Americans and accept the message of inferiority and helplessness the Left preaches at them constantly then this country will have added another stone to our already sinking ship.

The problem is the welfare state, which Obama has expanded as if his very life depended on it. Honestly in the end this bill makes little difference. If we go around trying to convince people that they need help and by association are unable to help themselves, we're going to add 11 million more to the doles and many more thereafter even if we don't allow a single immigrant to stay in the country. The ratio of those who contribute to the nation and those who only take from it will continue to get worse, and in the end this 11 million more and all their kids will do no more than hasten the obvious demise that awaits us.
