Global warming which has been the subject of so many discussions in recent years, may give way to global cooling. According to scientists from the Pulkovo Observatory in St.Petersburg, solar activity is waning, so the average yearly temperature will begin to decline as well. Scientists from Britain and the US chime in saying that forecasts for global cooling are far from groundless. Some experts warn that a change in the climate may affect the ambitious projects for the exploration of the Arctic that have been launched by many countries.

The consensus prior to Al Gore inspired warming hysteria, was that a global cool down was in the offing. If one looks at the raw numbers for global temperatures, prior to their being massaged by computer programs, the cool down theory might have legs.

My concern is fresh water, not global temps

What? You mean the Earth has a climate pattern that isn't controlled by which light bulb design we choose?

A giant multi-billion dollar boondoggle to further narrow political aims and divert money to certain politically active groups. Had this been a serious effort to care about the environment we'd have focused on pollution, but to get political action we need a threat that can be internalized by the voters. General things like "clean water" won't get action. You need something like an unfixable end of the planet in 20 years. Then you can get billions spent on "green" industries that fail before their doors open, get massive wealth transfers from free democracies to third world potentates, get more government regulations and more concentration of power that furthers long term goals of long time enemies of the market.

We need to reduce our level of pollution and waste. That's been a given since before we even knew the earth had global climate variations. It's just not enough of a rallying cry to get the radical action some desire.

Phew, this is good news, i was so concerned we were going to bring about the end of humankind on our own just like we started it ourselves...
