however my wife stated "they can take my pressure cooker when they can pry if from my cold oven mit"

Sound reasonable? (http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlines/2013/04/pressure-cooker-bomb-used-in-boston-explosions-designed-to-kill/)

Have been holding off any comments about Boston re the gun debate, but I think it does show that there is a far broader problem here of lunatics let loose in a society where technology has allowed us to inflict a great deal of damage. That can come from guns, or explosives, or derailing a train, or biochem attacks, it's a long list.

Gun violence is really a very different issue. 99% of gun violence is a function of crime or domestic personal violence, not lunacy. We ignore the issue of mass violence if we focus on just one aspect of it. It's clear from what has been found about the Newtown shooter and Aurora and all the rest that these madmen spend months or years planning and idealizing their attacks. They have more than enough time, and intelligence, to plan horrible attacks without being held back by the absence of any particular method, even if we could magically really eliminate one, which we can't. They have more than enough time and intelligence to obtain the means of their attack as well.

I don't know if there's an "answer". How do you lock down every major event held on open public streets? Do we stop assembling in such ways for fear of one of these people? Change our whole way of life and give up our liberties? I think not. Do we go around banning guns or fertilizer or pressure cookers? Won't work either, won't even be pebble in the road. Even Biden has admitted that to be the case.

Addressing mental health will stop a few here and there. We already work hard to prevent acts of foreign terrorism. We probably have to live with these things happening from time to time given the freedom we expect in this country and the level of technological achievement we have attained.

Oh, and I love exploding water heaters on Mythbusters. The technology of these bombs is about that simple. Heck, it was published in the Anarchist's Cookbook, which has been around since the early 70s.

And you can add Jay Mohr to the dumbass brigade....

http://dailycaller.com/2013/04/16/actor-blames-boston-attack-on-gun-culture-2nd-amendment-must-go/#ixzz2QjY1T5Uv

A cogent argument can be made, but not on the heels of a bombing in which guns were not used.

Never let facts get in the way of your beliefs.

he ties the 2nd Amendment to a "culture of violence". here's Jay Mohr in one of his movie roles:

Hypocrite much?

He was an actor in "Suicide Kings", where a mafia boss is kidnapped at gunpoint, "Small Soldiers" where toy soldiers become violent and engage in a battle with other toys, "Cherry Falls" which is a slasher movie with LOTS of violence, episodes of CSI MIami and a Las Vegas episode with sniper attacks, Criminal Intent where he plays a killer, Prime Suspect, another cop show, not to mention "Street Kings", a cop action shoot-em-up with Keanu Reeves, "Lonely Street" where cover of the FREAKIN' DVD case has him holding a gun.

The "culture of violence"? Dude, YOU are the culture of violence, not gun owners. You glorify gun use, pointing them at people for purposes of entertainment, and blasting those who have never pointed one at another person EVER and use them to defend themselves and their families.

Hypocrisy sickens me, and you have it in spades.

One of the things that makes it so hard to stop these lunatics from slaughtering people is, they don't care who they kill. They don't have to have a reason to kill, they're not angry at anyone in particular, they just want the attention and that means anyone can be the target. So it opens up many doors of opportunity for them to do their dirty work. Take their guns, they will use a bomb, can of gas and a lighter, automobile or just about anything else to do the job. There's no way to stop them all, but better screening is the best method of stopping some of them IMO.

My wife banned pots and pans from our house years ago. She always told me she was ahead of the curve.

There's always the tankless heaters Darrell :)

Which I have and love, but then the lady from the water company would be even more certain Darrell is leaving the water running when he brushes his teeth b/c it provides endless hot water. ;)
