With no federal funds, why not study those programs instead of throwing federal money at a situation (http://http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/02/17/obama-pre-k-plan-draw-support-for-poor-children-but-questions-on-cost/?test=latestnews)

However, Georgia Republican Sen. Johnny Isakson told The Wall Street Journal that his state’s program, which offers free pre-kindergarten to all 4 year olds, works because it “started locally, is funded locally and doesn’t have a dime of federal money.”

But it lacks the SEIU kickback the fed money requires.

Thanks, that never dawned on my simple mind, and I am a true believer in following the money to understand why things happen the way they do in DC.

Kentucky's four-year olds can qualify to go to publicly funded preschool at their local schools. Preschool and Head Start compete for the same kids, and as a result most get to attend one or the other.

I don't see any evidence that Head Start really benefits children. A greater percentage of head start kids become dropouts than do non-head start kids. My youngest brother was a head start drop out, I don't see how his dropping out hurt him any. He was his HS class valedictorian and he is now an MD.

Think about it. Spending time with your parents until you're 5 or spending a year or two with kids your own age?
