Brilliant move. He broke off an engagement to speak at the Cambridge Union b/c another speaker was blacklisted for using a Hitler impression to make a point about "bad taste". The guy wasn't in any way endorsing Hitler.
Since Cleese was part of Monty Python and on their TV show they did a brilliant parody of Hitler and in fact his senior cabinet as well, he cancelled himself.
He's actually filming a documentary right now called "Cancel Me", which I'm sure points out among other things that he and about every other comedian must now be cancelled for past offenses.
