The time to worry is when the senator is not criticizing your economy. (https://www.wsj.com/articles/bernies-broken-markets-11631903596?mod=hp_opin_pos_5#cxrecs_s)

Is everything broken in the world’s most prosperous society?

Mr. Sanders claims his proposed government programs will address “long-neglected needs” across the economy and he has spent years calling for such interventions regardless of the state of the economy. On social media he even proudly shares video clips showing that much of his rhetoric has never changed through the decades, regardless of circumstances. The senator maintains a robust natural immunity to the acknowledgment of new facts.

He insists that “whether you are a working class Republican, Democrat, or Independent, at the end of the day, you want the federal government to finally respond to your needs.”

Before Americans trust Mr. Sanders to respond to their needs by turning the U.S. economy upside-down, they should know about the economies that he doesn’t want to fix.

Ask Mr. Sanders about impoverished hellholes like Cuba and he’ll find a way to be complimentary. You won’t hear him railing about shortages of pharmaceuticals or demanding an end to the critical lack of life-saving technology.

When pressed he will sometimes acknowledge the authoritarianism of socialist regimes but does he ever criticize the barbaric way they run their economies?

The Sanders record is long and appalling on this score. Anton Troianovski has reported in the New York Times on how Soviet officials in the 1980s viewed people like Mr. Sanders as highly useful. At the time Mr. Sanders was the mayor of Burlington, Vt.. The Times account includes Mr. Sanders’ reaction to a visit to the U.S.S.R:

“People there seemed reasonably happy and content,” Mr. Sanders told reporters in Burlington about Yaroslavl, a city of about 600,000. “I didn’t notice much deprivation.”

More recently, Mr. Sanders said he didn’t see what was so wrong with Cuba to one of the regime’s political prisoners, according to the former captive.

You’ll know the U.S. economy is in dire straits when Mr. Sanders stops trying to impose wrenching changes upon it.
