PSA. I know we have a few members that suffer from allergies to shell fish, and I do not expect them to be bug harvesting for their lunch menu, but one never knows whether they might attend a party or visit a local bar where the host might be serving bug appetizers.

Not only eating them, but I believe some have allergies so severe that they can’t come in contact with shellfish and other things they are allergic to (Darrell)

My wife and I were in New Orleans a few days ago and she is still there spending a few extra days with her 90 year old parents. I sent her an article about that and told her to be sure not to make any cicadas for me. Funny, she explain how disgusting that was without realizing just how close that is to the mudbugs (crawfish) that she routinely eats in New Orleans. I guess it's all what you get used to.

Thanks for the PSA, but no worries here. I'd have to be pretty hungry to consider eating one lol

cicada-cakes, cicada 'taters-n-'maters..
..linguistically it works.

Perhaps even a savory cicada soufflé might appeal to all but the cicada itself.

Our last big cicada year was in 2008, we are due the next one in 2025. Our area is Brood XIV territory. Early on they make good bait for fish, and chickens find them tasty.

How about: Don't eat cicadas unless you are about to die of starvation. that seems like sound advice.

Yes I know they are close cousins of crawfish, lobsters, etc., but humans are close cousins to chimps too. There's still a lot of difference in "close".

So if you like to fly fish, pick up some cicada flies and head to your local lake. Sight fishing for 15 pound carp is crazy fun. But have your pliers handy so you don't have to handle the slimy things.

Eat cicadas? No way!
