Boundary-breaking swing drummer Viola Smith, who worked with legendary jazz entertainers Ella Fitzgerald and Chick Webb, has died at the age of 107.
Smith reportedly passed away Wednesday in Costa Mesa, Calif., from Alzheimer’s disease one month before her 108th birthday.
In 1949, Viola was tapped to perform at President Harry Truman’s inauguration
I would advise anyone who thought "wipe out" was amazing drums when the sixties rolled around, to watch through at least until this little lady is shown in 1939 playing the skins.
