The Chinese government intentionally manufactured and released the COVID-19 virus that led to mass shutdowns and deaths across the world, a top virologist and whistleblower told Fox News host Tucker Carlson on Tuesday.

Carlson specifically asked Dr. Li-Meng Yan whether she believed the Chinese Communist Party released the virus "on purpose." "Yes, of course, it's intentionally," she responded on "Tucker Carlson Tonight."

Yan said more evidence would be released but pointed to her own high-ranking position at a World Health Organization reference lab as a reason to trust her allegation.

"I work[ed] in the WHO reference lab, which is the top coronavirus lab in the world, in the University of Hong Kong. And the thing is I get deeply into such investigation in secret from the early beginning of this outbreak. I had my intelligence because I also get my own unit network in China, involved [in] the hospital ... also I work with the top corona[virus] virologist in the world," she said.

Not sure I'm ready to believe it's a pure bioweapon just yet, but I have little doubt it came from their labs, albeit likely by accident.

In all of this its amazing there's been so little outrage against the Chinese, who have released numerous plagues on the world in the last 20 years with another big one apparently out there on the horizon.

If it were a bioweapon then I suppose starting the release among your own population would be a great political cover. If you didnt' really value your own people at all, and thought it would do more damage to your enemy in a war of attrition, I could see it. In WWI the gases used often caused casualties on both sides but they kept on using them.

I am with you...dont think it was intentional but I do believe it got out of the Wuhan lab long before most. Logically that made the most sense, more than a bat in the market

It was in the US as early as November.

Pedro was pretty adamant that the science says otherwise. They may have said hey look what's coming...let's not face it alone.

It says it wasn't synthetic. That says nothing about how or why it was released.

It doesn't have to be created synthetically in order to be isolated and sitting in a lab and then be accidentally transmitted due to bad procedures, or even released on purpose.

Now, by bioweapon standards it's a bad one. Hard to control, no antidote, infects everyone, etc. You'd never design such a weapon.

BUT, there is an argument that for China it still might make sense. They may not care if a bunch of their people die, maybe they asses that it will hurt them less versus other nations, etc.

IMO it was NOT intentionally released. If they wanted to do that they'd send people from China with it, and then infect themselves or others. They could maximize impact on a nation like the US, minimize damage to their own (though it would get there and they'd know it), and I don't think that would be too hard to pull off covertly.

But it's completely reasonable to assume she's right that it was released from a Chinese lab. That would fit with suppressing the information, including in the WHO chain, how they got ahead on capturing PPE stockpiles, etc.

Exactly although this virologist claimes markers are present. I find it hard to believe a bat possibley infected from a colony 500 miles from the wet market being more.likely the source than a lab full of virus that is a mile from the epicenter. Especially when the lab had been criticized recently for poor containment practices
