Just off I-22 (former Corridor-X, route between Birmingham and Memphis) is a little town called Brookside, Alabama. It's not close to me, relatively speaking, but it's north of Birmingham proper, although some might consider it in the extended Birmingham area, I guess. Same county.

Their police chief is in ICU with Covid-19. Can't breathe, speak or move without assistance. About to start plasma treatments.

Prayers for Chief Michael Jones. From what little I know, he has done a good job cleaning up an area that is not easy to clean up.

Brookside is an old mining community. A lot of Russian immigrants settled in the area. The area has come a long way in the last 15 years. I went up there to rent a canoe several years ago and wound up spending a lot of time exploring the town. The church holds a Russian Food Festival every year. I've never been to the festival but it is on my list. The ladies from St. Nicholas had a booth at a local music festival for a couple of years and the food was amazingly good. My best wishes to the entire community as they deal with the illness of their chief.
