More proof that the presidential elections are nothing more than theater...time to wake up people...it's all a lie

Mitt Romney didn't want to be president, anyway.

That's what Tagg Romney, Mitt's oldest son, told the Boston Globe for its big post-mortem on his father's failed presidential bid published on Sunday.

“He wanted to be president less than anyone I’ve met in my life," Tagg Romney told the paper. "He had no desire to ... run. If he could have found someone else to take his place ... he would have been ecstatic to step aside.

"He is a very private person who loves his family deeply and wants to be with them," Tagg continued. "He has deep faith in God and he loves his country, but he doesn’t love the attention.”

Romney's reluctance to become commander in chief has been hinted at by his sons before. Before their father sought the 2012 GOP nomination, several said they tried to convince him not to run.

"I tried to convince him not to," Matt Romney told Conan O'Brien in June. "I think there were a few of us that tried that. I just felt for us as a family, this isn't the best thing. But ... for the country, we think it's the right thing."

That's like saying, "I didn't really want to win the lottery, even though I bought a hundred tickets". Romney ran for Prez since midway of his tenure as Governor. He spent the last two years of his term setting up for his 2008 run. He started running for 2012 before the 2008 election was over. Yeah, that sure sounds like someone who "....had no desire to ... run. If he could have found someone else to take his place ... he would have been ecstatic to step aside."

Even if true it is less a conspiracy and more a failing of the GOP nomination process.

The problem with the GOP nominating process is that it begins in states that are not a base for conservatives and you get moderate and left leaning members of the GOP that jump out to a lead and by the time the South and far West holds primaries the race is pretty much over.

So...

1) He didn't want to run but

2) His son tried to talk him out of running but couldn't.

Am I the only one who sees these as contradictory?

No sir you are not. At least one son did not want him to run because if he did, it would be bad for the family, but good for the country. Seems to me as if Mitt chose good for the country.

Mildly.

I have done things I did not "want" to do in the sense of it was unpleasant for me. I have had family or friends try to alk me out of doing it, too, so I have been in the identical spot.

Ultimately, I "wanted" to do it, because I felt I had to, but it wasn't what I "wanted" to do because it was unpleasant for me.

Whole thing may be a crock, but if you view something unpleasant, but needed, as something you don't "want" to do, it is not inconsistent.

I can't argue with your premise as a generic statement, but Romney had been running for President since 2005. Do you really think that someone who didn't really want it or didn't have his heart in it would spend the bulk of his time on it for the last seven years? If he didn't really want the job, he would have given up on the idea after he lost to an underfunded McCain in 2008. Before the votes were cast in the general election in 2008, he had operatives like Kevin Madden out there working to set the stage for his 2012 run.
