Is there free or cheap software that allows one to record a live stream on a PC and then save it as a MP3 or MP4 file?

Thanks

Unless the stream allows it I do not know of a way to save it really. The work around is a screen recorder. OBS is what I use.

Techsmith's says their Snagit product it will work. I'm going to try it myself. $50 for the product, not a bad price.

If it is hosted online after the stream you can probably get it pretty easy.

Not certain what your after, but the Avid media composer should do that and much more. Even the free version.,,Media Composer First

This MC instruction video on live video capture might help answer that question.

I think they area little stingy on the free version as far as recognizing formats but you can save as MP4.

In most cases that would be a negative. ESPN3 streams the games, live but does not rebroadcast them

Not sure snagit would work as there is no mention of audio capture

I looked at it since then. It records through speakers/mic, but that's a pretty poor setup.

Most of them will use onboard audio. Probably all.

Capture card to another machine? Would be better than a screen recorder.

I will say I've used a Hauppauge box very successfully, but that comes off another source, then feeds it to software on the PC. But that would take some trickery and then some.

Curious if you've had any luck with this. I've looked around some, not much luck. Which is odd, you'd think this would be readily available tech.

I took a look at his online, and it appears to have everything I want. If anyone is willing to waste a bit of their time, take a look and see if it looks like something I could use.

Thanks

Apowersoft Screen Recorder ProIt is just a screen recorder right? If so, there are free options to do that.

Yup it is a screen recorder and it captures the audio feed as well. It also allows for capturing specific areas of the screen by defining that area with the mouse.

Capturing the internal audio? That's a good feature, most that I've seen can record from the mic so it's picking up the speakers, but that's it. Not nearly as good.

Dan, try OBS before you pay for something

I could be completely wrong on that feature as I would not know the difference in what you describe and capturing the internal audio.

Have not found anything that pleases me yet, but will be looking at some of these.

Dan, I still like OBS. I ripped something for Darrell a while back. I use it for a lot of things at work. Also just used it in helping out the local Sherriff's office. Once you get past the open source clunky stuff, it is pretty useful. You can also live stream from it.

I can attest that what KentuckyWildcat did for me came out great, however he did it .
