Anyone use a VPN hardware appliance or Windows VPN?

Just curious if our IT folks here use a hardware VPN, or a windows server based VPN? I need to set up VPN for the office, but needs to be client to LAN, from clients who will be moving around. I'm familiar with OpenVPN, and I may also set up a site to site, but thinking of using a dedicated box for the client VPN.

I use peplink router at the main gallery, and I love it, but it only has site to site VPN with other peplink units. Great for doing off site backup type stuff, but staff need to be able to connect using IPSec etc from different locations.

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with the setup.

We use Forti but we outsource it. I can't really comment on it. Other than it sucks.

I've used HideMe some at home. But not enough to have a strong opinion.

I'm generally not stealing AR blueprints to need a VPN ;)

I had a windows unit once and then got central AC. It was VPN#@*%! hot without it.

I did not understand half of what you posted but did catch the part about VPN. This probably will not help you at all , but the company I work for uses Cisco Systems mobility client for it's VPN needs. The software is installed on all company PCs. I have to connect the software every time I boot up and want to connect to the company servers from my remote location. I have no complaints other than the fact that it does slow down the connection speeds.

KyWildcat - yeah I figured this thread was mostly for you and Pedro, but I was hoping some folks like Dan may have some user expereinces.

Dan - Thanks, Cisco definitely has a few VPN appliances they use, and they have their own client for it. The only downside is it's a license thing where I'd have to pay for them annually. That's not a deal breaker, looks like most of these will have a license either on the client or the server side or both.

I use OpenVPN for some things. I have a NAS that has it built in, and I may just move it or get another one and use it, those things are AWESOME. Also use it for my internet VPN.

I just wanted to see what was out there. The NAS is more expensive if I don't move my other one over, and worried about throughput and network access, have to figure that all out, but they're also very robust and solid.

Yep, work and other life things have been keeping me crazy busy. At work we use a Juniper Networks VPN and it works well enough. Have used OpenVPN at my parents office, just installed as part of a DD-WRT install on an old router. Nothing special and likely not to the level of what you would want/need for a more advanced business but it worked well enough for my mom to connect to the server to do billing.
