December 1982, Monroe, Louisiana, my buddy stopped by to visit me. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180814/bbd381f7c50b71d47af62f81fb356121.jpg

So far, at least in my lifetime, the best POTUS we have ever had.
The world respected us then, and those that feared us had good reason to.
I was in the Army then. It was a good time to be an American.

I was 22 years old, and President Reagan stopped in to visit the flooded Monroe, Louisiana area. The area he visited wasn't the worst, but it was actually the other side of the street I lived on, about a mile down the road from where we lived.

I was actually shocked that I could walk right up to him, although I'm sure the Secret Service would have taken me down in a heartbeat had I presented a real threat, other than my little 110 camera.

It brings back fond memories, because when I had the film developed and that photograph came out, my mom thought that it was the best picture she had seen of President Reagan, and told me I needed to send it to him because he probably would appreciate it for his scrapbook. I think she was kidding, and I never sent it to him, but it still makes me smile to think about it.

This photo is one that was in one of the boxes I got from dad that I went through this morning. I've had a lot of smiles going through these boxes.

Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkI do think it was pretty cool. I have several other pictures from that event, but that was the best one, and where I literally was face to face with him. To me, it looks like one of those pictures you might see in a newspaper or magazine, so to think I took it with my little Kodak 110 camera just makes it even cooler.

Reagan was the first man I ever voted for and that was in the primary against Ford. I knew Ford couldn't pull it off against Carter after the Nixon disaster.. I always get a kick out of showing the electoral college maps of the '80 & '84 elections to those who don't give him the respect he deserved.
