Time for me to dump Direct TV so looking at options. I have a 4k tv but can't get 4k feed to as it is mounted on my chimney. I do have power but no way to easily run a cable to the TV hense I need a wireless option. DTVs wireless box isn't 4k capable, plus I'm fed up with them. I buddy just put in smartstream to his 4k tv and it looks great. I do have wireless network to the TV and can put a small box connected via HDMI so that does not seem to be an issue.

Anybody have smartstream? Opinions? Will they suddenly go under and I have a worthless box? I love the idea of no monthly cable bills, just an upfront $350 and no other bills. I spend that with 2 month of DTV and don't get any porn

Either way you should get porn. :)

I'm going to be following this one. We have cable, it's fine, but obviously many folks are going with streaming full time.

just one article I found that was not advertising the box for sale. Warning, it is not a positive review.

How does it compare to the Roku, Element TI8 or RVeal boxes? I did read one review that had the RVeal as the best one but not sure why (too much tech lingo). The Roku box runs $100 and the RVeal $298 while the smartstream is $350 to $450 so not sure why the difference in price. But mostly, from those in the know, I should be able to get rid of all my monthly TV fees with any of them, right? And do any have recordability? It appears the RVeal does but not sure.

based on that link, I went with a RVeal one (LOL). That was listed consistantlyt in the top 10 on websites so went that route, figuring if its a waste, well, its not the end of the world since I have 8 TV's. I'll stick it on one. I'll keep DTV until I'm sure I like it, plus I have another year on my contract with them and it will cost me about 100 bucks to dump it (I will when I'm sure this works). Will see.......

So anybody have RVeal (http://www.rveal.com/products/rveal-streaming-media-player-android-smart-tv-box)???

Keep in mind that these boxes that give the premium channels like HBO, ESPN, etc. tend to pirate their streams using either stolen credit cards or stolen accounts. They then redirect or restream the stuff to your box. THis is how they can get channels that otherwise would not be available, like ESPN, for free. As a result, not only is it supporting ID theft but if the company goes belly up then you often have no stream or you have to find the service they are using (which actually does the ID theft part of it).
