On Tuesday, Pennington was one of the voters who helped the county shift from voting for Democrats since its founding in 1869 to choosing Republican Donald Trump in 2016

Pretty amazing (http://fortune.com/2016/11/13/trump-elliot-county-kentucky/)

I have been following this with interest. The Damnocrat party in Kentucky is about to undergo major changes that will seal their fate as the perennial minor party in the Commonwealth. They cannot carry the baggage of the national party and have any voice in Kentucky. They are just now coming to grips with it. It says a lot about people like Stumbo, Beshear and Lundergan Wasserman Grimes who have cozied up to the national party with nothing for Kentucky in return. Once entitled state employees understand the Dems can't help them, the future of the Commonwealth will be on a fiscally conservative course.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Kentucky’s longest-serving U.S. senator — who has never been able to win Elliott County in his 31-year Senate career

In a sentence, that's what is wrong with Washington.

In the governor election last year Elliott was one of the few non-urban counties Grimes won. About the only industry in Elliott County is the Big Sandy Correctional facility.
