Tuesday I went down to the greyhound rescue and got us a new pet, named her Weller (after the bourbon). She never ran on the track as she is about the most UNINTERESTED running dog I've ever seen.

Pappy (Van Winkle), the brown dog is a goofball. He loves to chase the ball which is expected for a pointer (German Shorthaired) and he loves to swim. Will spend hours jumping in the pool. Wellers is the opposite. Has no interest in playing or running. Now chasing goofball, that was OK. Also, Greyhounds can't swim. They think water is solid and just after that video she walked into the pool and sank straight to the bottom. My daughter had to jump in the pool to pull her out, otherwise she would have drown. Also they don't get the concept of glass. She keeps walking into the sliding glass doors. Is getting better but still "thumps" all the time.

The video just screams, "happy."

Doc, will the greyhound learn not to try to walk on water? Not too many have been successful in doing that.

So a quick update......

After a day or two I noted something "wasn't quite right". Laziest freaking dog I've ever seen. She would play 2 minutes then sleep 3 hours. When she got up she would be sore and stiff, limp on her RT front leg and walk with her neck extended. My first though was " I wonder if this dog has Lyme disease, or one of the other tick bourne conditions like anaplasm??". So I ran bloods and a tick titer and bingo, she has an elevated Lyme titer meaning she was exposed to Lyme disease. Now I have to backtrack to see if she was vaccinated, which to the best of my ability is no. Also could do a newer heartworm test that checks for Lyme as well as some others but can tell if it's due to vaccine or disease. I elected to treat. Within two days she is markedly improved. So I'll treat for 4 weeks then repeat the titers. Hopefully she won't become a chronic one where it flares up, and hopefully there is no permanent joint issues

All 4 of our dogs have been "given" to us. Meaning it was take them or they're going to the pound. I may be a cold-hearted person a lot of times, but I just cannot be that way with an animal that is helpless and if it did end up at animal control and didn't get adopted, then it could possibly be euthanized. And we are so fortunate, all 4, three of which are "older" dogs, are all in good health and each has it's own distinct 'personality' and ways. It is a wonderful thing to have a great dog, and we are fortunate to have 4 unbelievably great dogs.
