Can pretty much cut and paste this as my opinion:

If this does not convince someone that the voter ID issue is a ruse to "fix" elections I do not know what to tell those folks.

Three years ago during a similar controversy, Ashe Schow of The Washington Examiner compiled a list of 24 things that require a photo ID.

You must have a photo ID if you are 25 or under and wish to purchase alcohol or cigarettes. Store signs say so. Want to open a bank account? Photo ID required. Here are the rest of the categories: applying for welfare, Medicaid and Social Security (presumably poor people take advantage of one or more of these programs); unemployment benefits (ditto); rent/buy a house, or apply for a mortgage; drive/buy/rent a car; get on an airplane; get married; buy a gun; adopt a pet; rent a hotel room; apply for a hunting or fishing license; buy a cellphone; visit a casino; pick up a prescription (or buy restricted over-the-counter medications); donate blood; apply for a license to hold a demonstration; buy an "M"-rated video game; purchase nail polish at CVS.

Exactly Dan. A photo ID is required to basically function in this country. They are also FREE and are issued by every state. The idea that it's a burden to get one that is so high that it's a problem is absurd. If you can't do just that much then no you don't deserve to vote, get over your lazy self.

Kentucky has required one forever, and we're a pretty poor state. The only reason to not have one is to commit fraud and let people go round up homeless people and give them a carton of cigs to to pull a lever or go to 10 polling places and pull it 10 times. That's it.

The argument is they can't get an ID yet they can vote seems absurd to me.

A black Alabamian's twitter rant has gone viral.

"It is racist," she says, "to assume minorities are too incompetent to get an ID."

“It’s not racist to require an ID to vote,” responded an exasperated Pam Besteder, a black Alabamian who identifies on her Twitter profile as an independent voter who “loves God and Country and the American flag.”

“It IS racist,” she continued, “to assume minorities are too incompetent to GET an ID.”

It's incredibly racist. The arguments of the left these days closely mirror arguments made in the defense of slavery in the early 1800s, both based in the belief that black people can't make it on their own and overcome adversity without help.

It had gone beyond the fight to take down barriers that prevented minorities from succeeding to the affirmative belief they have some kind of special needs.
