View Full Version : Flashback time - digital memo minder/recorder thing?

So here's the deal. I am constantly thinking of "one thing" I need to do, add, change, call, etc. I have 3 or 4 digital recorders, and a bunch of "paper" products (to do type diary things). But that's not really what I need.

What I need I have had before, and cannot now locate, either my own, or online anywhere. I am looking for a "Memo Minder," of sorts.

Best I can remember, it was a flat device, about the size of a credit card, black in color, with some raised buttons to press to record, or to play. Maybe something to place in separate "files," but I may be making that up.

It seemed like it had a total recording capacity of something tiny like 180 seconds. But that's perfect for what I want. If it fills up 3 minutes of "Call John," "prepare lecture," "pick up son from school on Thursday," "Add this appointment to calendar," then I need to play it, record it properly where it belongs, and then delete it. It's a temporary holding thing, nothing else.

Do you know what I am talking about? Do they still make these things? It should be cheap, I'd think.

If all else fails, I'll start carrying one of the digital recorders, but that's not really what I want to do.

Why not use Google Now to set a reminder.

Have tried that, don't like it for a whole bunch of reasons. I actually use it for some things, but it doesn't fit this niche.

Definitely on the right track. I like that. It may be a half step above what I really want, which is a dumb utilitarian, spartan device that doesn't download to a computer or anything, but I would consider that.

No, no, no apps or anything for the phone. No Evernote (which I have) or anything like that, or a voice recorder feature. I use those for other things. This is a very specific niche. Maybe use it two or three times a day, or 40. One second at a time kinda use. Dedicated to a singular purpose.

CitizenBBN definitely has the right thing, maybe ideal, but I'm thinking lower key than that, barely. But not the crappy Keychain kinda recorder either. Something between those two.

I had two of them years ago. May have been 20 years. I remember I had one that may have recorded like 30 seconds worth, and then upgraded to one that could record like 90 seconds. I can picture it, but can't recall the name or manufacturer.

what about a keychain with one? Found a number of those.

Here's what you want, but I can't find them for sale as retail, this is a chinese volume order thing:

Found this one, kinda close, a little thick:

I like that Super Scientific One. That's very close. The keychain ones, I don't like so much. I know it doesn't make sense, but I know what I want; at least the range of them. The first one you posted is probably just outside of what I'm looking for, although I'd consider it. The one you posted above is within the range; definitely acceptable.

Here are two more...one that is actually available, I guess. The other one is out of stock (from Overstock; always amused with Overstock is out of stock).

That one hits about everything. Very simple, but practical. Has 4 separate "boxes," or files, so you can get used to putting things in box 1 for business, box 2 for personal, box 3 for telephone calls, box 4 for priority (or whatever). 116 seconds maximum. Smaller is actually better in my world; if I can only put "so much" in it, I won't overfill it before doing what I need. Can skip immediately from one to another, etc.

Out of stock, of course.

This 2nd one looks similar to the one above you posted that I like.

Another simple operation thing, three buttons. Records 90 seconds. (That's kinda the minimum. I could live with something that had enormous memory, like 2-80 hours, or whatever, but my favorite would be something like 300 seconds in a perfect world.)

I'll check tomorrow a little more, but all of these are in the right genre.

Oh--and I have a digital recorder that's small. Actually 3 of them (that I know where they are). So in a pinch, I could always go back to that. And may. But that doesn't really hit the niche. Weird, I know.

Found it, but company probably out of business.

This is the VT-90, which held only 90 seconds of things. They also had the VT-300, which held 300 seconds.

The 300 can be had from an outside con artist for $1,000. Worth maybe $20-30. Might even have been $50 back in the day.

Now, here's the good news. I was going through a junk drawer, and guess what I found?

Yup, my old VT-90. No batteries in it, which is good. As far as I know, if I put four button cell batteries in it, it should work.

Here's the link to it. Read the reviews, which do a better job of explaining why I think this is superior to other methods for the designated purpose. It's a scrap of paper substitute. I never did figure out how to describe it, but that's it.

Here's mine. I hope it still works.

It works perfectly. Wow. This was bought probably 20 years ago or more. Fortunately I had four CR2025 batteries to put in.
