Hopefully this formats okay. Keep in mind that I have several diet restrictions so most of this is opinion of family and friends as my smaller sample size is not a fair judge. These are short tidbits but will hopefully get you started in the right direction. All of these places we would return to so I don't intend for any to sound harsh.

Cobalt’s – More expensive but I love it. Nice view.

Mikee’s – Amy’s family favorite. Smaller place but great food.

Shrimp Basket – Sister restaurant of Mikee’s. We have never been there but they have all you can eat shrimp one night.

LuLu’s – Fun atmosphere, close to a lot of things to do for kids like go carts, etc. Food is okay to good.

The Hangout – Fun place on the beach if you like live music. Food is okay to good.

Tacky Jack’s – Decent food, fun atmosphere, great view (I can only speak for the Orange Beach locations). Decent food here means that some loved it others did not care for it so maybe it depends on what you get? (locations in Orange Beach, Ft. Morgan, and Gulf Shores)

Sea N Suds - Food is just okay IMO, but it is neat to eat with the ocean view

Matt's Homemade Ice Cream - Great Ice Cream. Best we have found in Gulf Shores.

Flippers - Inland on a bay, everyone really liked their food, but no one raved about it either.

Lamberts - Home of the throwed rolls and southern food. Long lines and you will over eat. We don't go there much b/c we can get southern food anytime.

Cosmo's - Have not been there yet, but I have heard great things about it.

There is a new place near Cobalt's (near the Florida line) that looks neat. I think it is a casual burger like place I think, but they have a picnic looking area and you eat outside by the beach. Looks neat.

Please feel free to add, expand, agree, or disagree to this list. We have been to a few others places as well, but this is what I could think of at the time of doing the list. We have also been to a few good mexican and italian places but I don't see a need in adding them as they were not really anything unique. Also, if you like the chain places, Foley has plenty of those.

Lamberts always has has a long line, so if you're interested in that, get there early or late (it's really a chain, and can get it elsewhere, too). I agree with you, can get southern food anywhere. Go seafood at the beach.

Tacky Jack is available in Fort Morgan, too. Overpriced for what you get, IMHO, but hey, it's vacation. In Fort Morgan, it's a great place to have a cocktail and watch the sun set over the bay, but I'm not familiar with the Gulf Shores one.

We tend to stay down on the Perdido Key side. We really like Fisherman's Corner (http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g34550-d1103766-Reviews-Fishermans_Corner-Pensacola_Florida.html), which is hidden away under a bridge heading from Perdido Key to Pensacola close to Gulf Beach Highway, but it has some dang fine eats and drinks.

We also like the Crab Trap (http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g34551-d538971-Reviews-Crab_Trap_At_Perdido_Key-Perdido_Key_Florida.html) which is on Perdido Key Dr between Perdido Key and Orange Beach, but mainly for the back patio dining with a great view of the Gulf. The food's pretty average.

In Gulf Shores, we like the original Oyster House. It's touristy and can get backed up for dinner in-season, but for off-season (and even a late lunch in-season) we like it. They have great sides.

We like to do a lot of our own cooking, and usually go to Joe Patti's Seafood (http://www.joepattis.com/) in Pensacola to get it. Where does everybody get their fresh seafood down there?

I would only add, if you drive home through Pensacola, take an extra cooler and load up on some great fish and Seafood at Joe Patti's fish market on the bay in Pensacola. It is truly an unbelievable place and will extend the pleasure of your vacation after you arrive home. Just take a cooler, tell them what you want and they will fill it up and ice it down. Make it a big cooler because once you see what they have you'll buy twice as much as you intend.

Cobalt for one, I'll have to ask the wife for some others.

We ate at a place that overlooked some docks and we sat and ate and watched the fishing boats come in. I believe it was called Steamers. The Royal Reds were perfectly steamed.

My S-I-L and I ate ourselves almost sick on them one night and they were awesome.

This is hurting. Thinking of being at Conch Republic (the bar, not the island), they do a great job with them, right on the harbor. Warm, very cold beer, great shrimp. Pretty much sums up what I want to do every day in retirement. Come on Lottery!
