BUT, the guy has a ton of foreign policy smarts and an understanding of history that few in Washington have.

IMO this is worth a read. It mirrors my thoughts on the Islamic barbarianism occurring in the Middle East today, so it would be stupid not to like what I read.

btw. those of you who think well of the days of Ronald Reagan in the White House, get an extra benefit from reading the piece.

Gingrich is one of the smartest guys to go through Washington in a long time. A pretty good approximation of both what Reagan would have said and done.

In the very first years of the new American Republic, then-Secretary of State Thomas Jefferson sent Thomas Barclay, American consul to Morocco, on May 13, 1791, a letter of instructions for a new treaty with Morocco that noted it is "lastly our determination to prefer war in all cases to tribute under any form, and to any people whatever."

This is key. Europe, now as then, has largely paid the ransoms to these vermin. America was built, from its very beginnings, on the principle of not paying tribute to anyone, long before we were a great military power.

Obama is in essence a European. Capitulate, negotiate, try to not offend the bully. America is a nation that turns around and beats the snot out of bullies.

Of course had Reagan been President the last 6 years it never would have come to this. Our allies would have support, or enemies would have fear, and we wouldn't have allowed it to get this far.

Had Reagan been president the last six years the coastline of Syria would be casinos and resorts and the rest of the country would be a parking lot with the worlds largest petting zoo on the Iraqi border.

Personally, I think Newt would be a very good Secretary of State. Or as a foreign policy advisor of some sort to the next POTUS(if it was to be a Republican). He has a lot of knowledge that could be put to good use.

Personally I don't care about the governor races other than FL as they make no difference to me personally. However I do fear that the pollster have this wrong, like they did in 2012

I love that characterization of America.
