Thought I screwed it up--printed the instructions, went over them carefully, had it up on the computer, and followed it step by step, very slowly. Was the specific instructions for rooting my phone, with my new OS, with my cell phone provider.
Somehow it couldn't locate a file that I had downloaded; finally figured out why after too many minutes spent trying to locate it, then realized that my computer had not recognized my phone as being connected the 2nd time (a common occurrence with this old computer I use). The mistake was using an old, outdated, seeing-eye dog required computer to do this rather than the new one my son built a couple of months ago that is completely updated.
Anyway, I now possess a rooted Samsung S4. Very carefully getting rid of a little of the bloatware that drives me crazy. Mostly moving apps to the SD card I couldn't move before, giving more room to download TV shows.
