How in the world am I supposed to eat a sensible meal when it's all there in front of me? Self control? Sheesh.

Next time my strategy is to skip the meal, and just eat five or six desserts.

Yeah, we have hundreds of them here in. Florida. Seems like everywhere you go there is at least one, and in some of the larger towns there are sometimes multiple choices. And lots of ethnic choices too! The Golden Corral is not the only option.

We've the Horse Shoe casino around the corner from us, Friday night seafood buffet...

Really ?? Eat your fill in crab legs, shrimp, oysters, and clams which spikes your cholesterol and then go gamble away everything you own. That's the devil all in one location... I avoid both

Golden Corral? seriously? Only place I've ever gotten bacon that had HAIR on it. Not like a hair but rather hair growing out of the bacon. Was in Orlando and they have the breakfast buffet. The bacon literally had hair growing out of it. Sorry but that was the last time I ever at at any steak place for any breakfast buffet (or any steak house buffet). Come to think of it, the only buffet's I go to are SWEET TOMATOES (which is salads, soups) and Ghengis Grill (in North Carolina when we visit). Otherwise buffets gross me out.

Kind of agree, Doc. Not a huge fan of Golden Corral, but it's okay every once in a while. I guess it all depends on who the staff managers/cooks may be as to how much quality you receive.
My favorite is Buca di Beppo, which is a family style Italian restaurant. The staff actually brings the food to your table, in huge bowls, family style, unlike the cafeteria style of other restaurants. The first thing I thought of during my initial visit to Buca di Beppo was of my little Sicilian grandmother, because that is how she used to put her meals for us on the table. I guess it's not really a "buffet" in the classic sense.

Family style is different than buffet. At one you have a bunch of sweaty grubby handed strangers reaching their grubby hands into your potential food.

In the other they aren't strangers!

Seriously though, in "family style", the food hasn't been sitting out for hours or had who knows how many unsanitary things stuck into it. I'm no germophobe but even I can see that some of the things people do are beyond disgusting.

Golden Coral is more of feed trough than a buffet. Once was enough for me....

With all the kids playing in the chocolate fountain, that pretty much did me in, although I got a good mess of prime rib at the Johnson City Golden Corral.

That thing looks like a chocolate waterfall flowing into a petri dish.

My problem is not with the kids (8 Grandkids and 1 Great grandbaby) but the lack of parental oversight.
