How to heat a room on 15 cents a day

I think this is kinda cool. I may go to Walmart and see if I can get these things and give it a try.

I carry a large candle and pie tin with me along with a small blanket and toboggan in the winter while traveling in the SUV. The burning candle puts out a significant amount of heat and along with the blanket will keep the vehicle warm enough to keep from shivering if stranded at night in well below freezing temps.

We tend to not believe the internet's ideas for these quick fixes, but we tried this anyway. No dice. It looked nice but the candles only put off enough heat for an extremely small room. Physics tends to make me think that they only put out a certain amount of heat, and no amount of radiant spreading of the heat can increase the output.

I read another link that measured the BTU increase, approximated the dimensions of the room based on the queen sized bed, and determined it would raise the temperature a maximum of 3 degrees Celsius.

Something, but not much. I think Dan's large candle, pie tin and blanket for his SUV have a better chance.

I can guarantee it doesn't work b/c my 120+ year old house has fireplaces, despite the fact that it was originally gas lit and they had oil lamps. If all those fires weren't enough that they had to put in 6 fireplaces not counting the kitchen (7 total) I'm betting one candle won't do much.

In Dan's car example with a confined space and just trying to survive that makes sense to me, but a room heated to any level of comfort? Don't think so. Cool notion though.

Those two PCs and monitors will generate more heat than the candles.
